So on from my last post about the very first cigar, I too went through the 70's & 80's smoking King Eddies, the avge pub cigar & cafe creames until I smoked my first Havana on hols in Spain, I believe that was a Monte No 4. Brought back a box of R&J Julietas as there were affordable & I thought they could replace the cafe creames when fishing. When we went back two yrs later I tried a Hoyo No2, No1 & a couple of Cohibas. Brought back box of No4's a few loose Hoyo2 & 1's a some Espleni's. The damage was done, the die was cast, my plasticx would never be quite so flexiable again...

Mine was the nightcap... It almost knocked me out when I first tried! But now I love it, along with other heavy latakia blends

Technically my first was some St Bruno when I sneaked a bit at around 13...

Other than that it was Kendal American Black & Brown, which while quite basic I still enjoy now and again to this day.

Hard to remember.... Used to have Cafe Cremes when motor biking around in my 20's... Instead of cigarettes which I'd given up. Always like look of big cigars before I'd ever tried one. I remember disliking Cohibas at the time as the draw was hard.... Maybe they were tougher then but it's never an issue now.

I remember my first cigar was a hamlet in the pub when I was 17. My first 'proper' cigar was when my mate brought back some cigars and cognac after Christmas at uni and a few of us sat smoking in his room. It was great

Think my first cigar was a king Edward in my local when I was circa 17 (13 years ago). Probably thinking I looked cool, and fit in with the rest of the pub having a pint and a smoke.

I started on Cafe Cremes, smoking them when I used to play in league matches of Tenpin bowling, then it moved on to smoking when out at night, back in those days most pubs/bars had some tubed cigars at behind the bar in a tiny cabinet. I picked up a H.Upmann which came in a silver tube, I forget the actual size but a corona of some description I should imagine.

Well, this being my first Cuban and proper smoke it blew me away, the rest as they say is history.

My first try of a cigar was from my father after his dinner parties

Couldn't tell you what the first one I bought was but what kicked started this as a hobby was a box of quinteros from Peru

The first cigar that actualy got me hooked about 10 years ago was a Phillies Titan that a mate gave me in a pub one afternoon. I really enjoyed the sweet maduro wrapper on this and so bought a pack. I've never looked back and joined this forum in March 2010, thus my mind was expanded to finer puros!

A Castella at the firms Christmas party - off Southend seafront - in the late seventies.

Wish I could remember my first proper cigar - I know it was 1983
I'm sure there are greater things in life than a fine cigar ........... but right now I can't think what they might be.

Hi Robert, Nice to know you too started in a humble way. I wonder today if beginners aren't getting into LE's & RE's too soon, before they have a good grounding in the regular production lines? When have you smoked your share of Hamlets/Castellas/King Eddies & then try a modest Monte No4 or R&J Deluxe No3, then you know you have made the cross over into the world of puros As you mentioned on the other thread, Monte A's were the been knees before LE& RE's Behikes & the rest, only the Lew Grades & Orsen Wells of this world could buy a box. Now people who would baulk at buying a nicely aged Esplen', would pay more for a two-four yo wrapped special & think they have reached the heights. To me it seems like getting a helicopter to the roof of the world & calling yourself a mountianeer
