That was the earliest box there. They had a box dated 1967 but they had all been sold.

I can get a Whisky from 1973 for around ?200 so why 10k for a box of Cigars.. Genuine rarity or pricing to what the market will stand? Interesting..

You could also spend many thousands on an early 70's bottle of Whisky as I'm sure you could pay much less for a similar aged box of cigars.... I'm sure the price is dependant on rarity/quality/desirability of said product.

I was curious about value across both mediums... A 'good' brand of single malt against a similar level of stick?

I suppose it depends on how you gauge "Level" Macallan produce bottles of Whisky for as low as ?30 but a bottle of 1946 will run you near ?10k and 1928 you could easily more than double that. Stick the same spirit in a one off decanter and history would suggest your talking half a million quid.

As with anything in life, things will sell at whatever people will pay for them and sometimes people with excess money will just go crazy.

Who decided that a box of cigars is worth ?10k? Because as long as they are sat on that shelf not selling they are not worth that at all.... Their value is only dictated by someone's willingness to buy them at a given price.

Have you seen that 64 year old Dalmore that was worth ?100k a bottle? So much had evaporated that they only got 3 bottles worth out of the barrel. I don't think I would pay this much even if I ?50m in the bank

Dalmore just has stupidly priced scotches for those who don't understand it as much. Them and Glenfiddich both. the glenfiddie and dalmore are basically pretty bottles that taste sweeter with limited peat to attract the masses. Therefore, they would attract those who would pay 100k a bottle (ummm.. Jeremy, that's pounds. go convert that to CAD and really see your jaw drop! ).

don't get me wrong though. Dalmore is probably my favourite scotch brand. yet to try the 18 year old. but the other classics are so amazing, i can't keep em off! except for the cigar malt. That was just a major fail overall. if i want smokey, i would never reach for Dalmore. And that will remain the same.
