  • Estabilshing the age of tubed cigars

Is there any way of doing this? Can't find any identifying marks on any that I've had, or the 3x boxes some of them come in.

On the lid of the larger 15&25 boxes the code is on the inside of the lid. On the tube/3 pack the only way would be if tubes/bands had changed over the years.

What Ross says. Swiss vendors used to put a small date sticker on the individual packs within the 15 and 25 blocks, but I haven't seen that done for a while.

Tubos singles are generally drawn from picking boxes, these are normal boxes with the date code on the bottom. Unless you ask your vendor for the date code at the time of purchase, you can no more date a Tubos than you could any cigar. Always ask, they're more than happy to provide the information.
If you want to, you can.

Plus the age may not tell you a great deal as I understand that tubed cigars tend to age slower. Is it the difference in ageing which makes tubed cigars taste different to (better than) their non-tubed counterparts (I'm think Boli RC, Monte 4 v Petit Tubos, etc)? Or are the sticks selected for tubes just better quality (and hence priced higher than just the marginal cost of a plastic tube)?

Sometimes. Our sponsors have so far proved the worst offenders. I think they sometimes forget to read the instruction in the Order Comments box. Simon at mss on the other hand is so used to me now I don't even have to ask anymore, he just scribbles the box codes on the Invoice print out.
