Did you know you only won the war because the government of the time thought that the spice and sugar of the West Indies was more important so they diverted most of our forces down there. The British changed to more of a defensive mode in the West Indies in about 1777 or 1778. About that same time the French, Spanish, and the Dutch had come to join the American side in the war. That is the same idea the Spanish had when we stole Florida from them. Who wants a bunch of alligator infested swamp land? The real prize to Spain was its holdings in the Caribbean. I blame Lord North for most of the problems. That being said empires cost money. I don't know as I would call them nuts. They mean well for the most part. The weather there is awesome and so they have taken the next logical step in trying to build a utopian society.
