I've smoked both now. And personally I prefer Cubans.
There's just something not right with the taste of a non-cuban IMHO.
    All the best!

I agree, it's probably just in my head but I always find the taste a little artificial from NC's...

Try a R&J Short Churchill-they were my first real Cuban and still love them now...

I don't find Olivas strong at all, the ones I have had have all bean pretty medium and luuuuurvely!

I am yet to have a bad Oliva, they are the closest thing to a goto brand I have yet.

My mind is a little muddled between the V/O/G's of the Oliva's

Cubans are to cigars what Scotch is to whisky.

What's that then?.... often bettered by an American, Japanese or Irish product yet It's still pushed in your face that it's the best Thing on earth?

I love a lot of Scotch but nobody should by under the illusion that it's the only team in what is proving to be an ever growing league.

Haha what have I started here. Once my cold clears up I'll try an Romeo y Julieta and share my thought. On the whole whiskey front i agree that it's not the scotch who have the best whiskey, i personally believe its Irish (Jamesons) thats the best.

please dont shoot me for asking this but are Cuban cigars really the best? I'm currently smoking one (Fonseca) and it doesn't seem as great as I'd expected. This is based on my limited experience, this being my second 'real' cigar (other smoked where bought from Asda) am I doing something wrong or are Cuban an acquired taste? Do they get better the more money you spend or the longer you age them?

                  Thanks guys
                  Chris

I wouldn't advise (personally) to buy your Cubans from ASDA.
Okay, as a one-off, fine. But for future purchases I'd use one of the many London/UK retailers.
They have websites too. You'll find cigars from ASDA and Waitrose are not kept in humidors.
This will affect the overall smoking experience (not being stored in the current humidity & temp).

i didnt buy buy it from Asda. In a previous thread i started i stated i bought them from a tobacconist in Liverpool. I wasn't aware you can buy Cubans from asda and if I was aware i wouldn't buy from asda. I have done research and know cigars are best kept in humidors at the right humidity to ensure the optimum condition is maintained.
