Cigar Management

Guys hoping for a little steer here. Now have 3 humidors, one being a cabinet. Do any of you have any method to managing where they live. Have some boxes with age and then lots of new boxes and singles / left overs from boxes. Just thought I'd see what people's thoughts were on storing aged vs new and whether to box or unbox!?

I personally keep it simple, keep in boxes until less than 5, anything I plan to age gets put out of reach and anything I smoke regularly is easily accessible everything else is just how it fits best. Singles are kinda by Marca though im not too anal about it.

One day ill have a cabinet but at the minute in my desktop humi i keep my good special occasion cigars on the left side and everyday smokes on the left

I have a small cabinet where I keep boxes for ageing and then keep singles in the desk top

I do like to keep the cigars I'm ageing in their original boxes to avoid cross contamination, when they're ready I will then move them over to the desktop, thats the plan anyway! ☺️

Hmmm.. All good stuff. Was thinking the other day about taking 3/5 cigars out of each box and storing away for ageing with a nice little dates band. What do people do with large collections? Put whole boxes away or sample out each year then decide to bring out to general stock??

I'd say keep the three fifths that you're looking to age, in the boxes Wid3y.

I have boxes in big tuppers for ageing and 2 desktops (one in the office and one at home). I periodically go through the tuppers and top up the desktops, anything in the desktops is for smoking.

NB - don't know if it is in my head but all cigars seem to taste better after 3-6 months in a desktop??

One in the office, this is a great idea! Always find myself at office thinking why didn't I bring a cigar for this evening!!

I keep all mine in their boxes inside Tupperware containers with humidity controlled by beads. Managing a desktop is too much work for me so I have several Tupperware boxes, where cigars are divided by brand. I always end up opening the desktop humidor to check on the humidity thus ruining the whole point of a desktop humidor! The clear plastic Tupperware allows me to check the humidity without wrecking it or the cigars.

Thats why you have a desktop humidor so that you can open it as the ceder wood inside holds humidity. As long as you don't forget to close then you will be fine. Not sure why your having issues?

I don?t have multiple humidors, but I have seen a couple suggestions that I like. One of them is making sure that those of similar ages are in the same humidors. Rotating the humidors that they are in can be good as well. I don?t think I know anyone who doesn?t use at least one box, but as I understand it, that?s more preference than necessity.

I've never heard any of the above before ...and suspect it is not relevant to most people.
