Humi issues

Alright lads,

Little problem i have topped my humidifer up give the inside of my humidor a little wipe and my hygrometer goes back to 70 to 71rh but after a few hours drops again to 64-66rh am i missing something to keep it back up there

are you seasoning it Sean? if so, a bowl of distilled water or a sponge on a plate soaked with distilled water will take a few days or so to get up to holding the humidity, don't over do wiping the inside. What humidifier do you have? and which Humidor?

No havnt seasoned it mate didnt no u have to each time u recharge will do that later. My humi is just a 60ct desktop humi and just a standard sponge humidifier might pop to my cigar shop today an pick up a boveda pack

You shouldn't have to season or rub down just for a refill, check your hygrometer (or get a digital if it's analogue), get either beads or boveda rather than the sponge and see how that does.

Yes - salt test your hygrometer to make sure the reading is accurate.
For all you now, it could be giving a lower reading by 4%.
So even though it reads 66%RH, it's ACTUALLY 70%.

Other factors could include the humidor's seal. Allowing humidity to escape?

Ill check all that mate well humis only 1 month old so dont think its a seal issue ill recalibrate my hygrometer. Think a digi one is on the cards though

My hygro (digi one) used to always read that my RH was 73%.
I stressed and stressed to get it lower.
Managed to get it lower in the end.
Did a salt test and found out the digi hygro was giving a reading of 4% higher!
So when it read 73-74%RH, is was in fact 69-70% (which is bang on)

My analogue hygro is Bang on. The digi one reads 4% higher...FYI

Yes mate seasoned it when i first purchased it 2 months ago will re do salt test on hygro

If you've added a lot of cigars recently that were from a lower humidity they will bring the rh of the humi down for a while. You may perhaps need a bigger humifier.

Ive a similar problem myself only on the opposite scale my digi hydro reads 74 consistently. ... standard puck sponge humi though. Maybe an upgrade is needed...

Mine has sorted itself out now with a bit of tlc haha but deffo going to replace puck

I seem to be having trouble with my humidor at the moment. It keeps dropping to 60. It was fine for the first couple of months so I doubt it's the seal. I wonder if it could be because we've started putting the heating on in the house or something?
