  • Golf and Cigars

    Morning all,

Crap golfer and fairly novice cigar smoker but just wanted to see what your opinions on good cigars to go with a game of golf are?

Unfortunately with work, the Mrs' rules at home an also the ban, one of the few regular chances I get to enjoy a Cuban is playing golf. This often means I'm taking my more expensive smokes out just to get a chance to sample them.

But, and I'm inclined to agree, when you're out on the course, with the wind and walking and all the rest, you perhaps don't get chance to full enjoy some of the subtle flavours of say a Sig 4 and I almost feel like its wasting an expensive stick, not to mention the burn being completely buggered! (Although the best cigar I've ever smoked was an Espl?ndidos out on the course)

Just wondered what other people have enjoyed when out an about, don't want to "waste" top of the range gear so to speak...

I understand the Monte Open line was made pretty much for this exact reason, they've had mixed press, what do you lot think?

    Cheers

    GT

I find that wind can make sticks smoke hot and harsh, I would be looking for a milder slower burning stick.

That's just my thought process anyway.

I'd say being a builder Tomo, get yourself a veranda/porch/lean-to built out the back of your house (property permitting of course) and give up golf

Like you say though, walking around a course is not going to provide the best experience for the better cigars you'd like to smoke. Perhaps use the round to sample lower end NCs and get creative in seeking opportunities to smoke your better cigars. Otherwise, perhaps smoke the smaller Cubans whilst out and about. The next few months is difficult for everyone bar those who frequent lounges, sampling rooms or have a dedicated indoor man space.

            ^^^ Good call.

I like smoking outdoors, but only when:
            a) the weather is warm
            b) there's no/hardly wind

Otherwise it's the Garage for me.

I never smoke standing up, only time ever on two feet with a cigar is going to fill my glass up, again

And i really need to sort my shed/man cave out. This weather is shite ........

I take my NCs on the course; I don't mind when the wind eats half of the stick because they're so one-dimensional that I know I'm not missing much. I save a good CC for the 19th hole when I can sit down and enjoy a more complex cigar with a Macallan. Typically I'll spark up a Bolivar RC or a Hoyo Epicure Especial.

Fair Enough. Unfortunately, of all the NCs I've had, and I have had a lot of them, the only ones I truly enjoy (Padron 1926 Series) are still one dimensional. They have a great taste all the way through, but they lack the complexity that CCs have so they don't build to the kind of finish almost all CCs manage to achieve. Still, I wouldn't smoke those on a golf course either. Instead, I would smoke a Punch Santa Rita, or a Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra on the golf course and then kick back with a Havana Puro for a more memorable smoking experience.

                      What NCs do you prefer?

Get you now mate thought u meant they lacked taste in general. Im. Fan of rocky patel and had la aroma de cuba last week which was really nice. Also like arturo fuente aswell think they have some interesting blends. As for cubans only smoked a few am still reasonably new to this so am saving the cubans i have got for special occasions but the ones i have smoked have been lovely

Tomo it has a lot to do with how your playing. When you knock the ball round the course with ease then life is good , the hip flask taste better you walk more upright and even an NC could be [dare I say ] mistaken for the finest Habanos !
