  • Did anyone else go mental to begin?

    Guys...

I have a problem...My new hobby is costing me a fortune, the problem is...If I have cigars - I smoke them! I have had two orders online in the past fortnight which were both quite pricey, and the best of them are gone...The rest are there now, in the corner looking at me...

Im hoping that this "smoke them all" phase will settle...I did the same when I started brewing beer, I made way more than I could drink and drunk beers before they were sometimes at their best...

I see guys on the forum having cigars in their Humi "for a year or so" and I am thinking FFS...I get a cgars package at work and I have one light on the way home!!!

I did smash it to be fair. I started at the start of the year from scratch and now i have 3 humidors and all the lighters, single to triple flame plus cutters etc. Its just absolutely consumed me. Now i have all the gadgets i can move back to collecting cigars.

I dread to think how much i have spent?

If you're enjoying them Stevey, smoke 'em. That's what they're made for.

There's a simple solution for that? Don't think about it!😄

Or as me pappy, Pappy Coro used to say: "Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream?.It's only money."

          Enjoy the journey!🗿

That's one of the best things about cigars in my opinion, the opportunity to relax, have a herf and reflect. Bliss!

I went a little mad but I was a broke student so that made me unable to go completely mad from the beginning. I find that just collecting different cigars and ageing them now is at least half of the fun - have you tried taking tasting notes on your smokes? I find it helps me compare them at different ages which if nothing else provides motivation for letting the sticks sleep a little longer in the humidor...

Don't worry Stevey, it happened to me too.
Being new to cigars, I was extremely keen to sample the many cigars around.
I ended up sampling a lot. And I mean A LOT! Most of it was done on the sly without the Mrs knowing
Over the past year I ended up spending just over ?1k on cigars...
I did find my favourite one in the end though I'm extremely happy to say (Behike 52. Not everyone's cup of tea, but perfect for me).
Now I'm currently sampling a few shorter smokes, so I leave my more expensive batch alone!

                    Best of luck bud.

My spending has settled down a little in the last few years as I am getting closer to the '10 year rolling stock' scenario where I always have a choice of aged stock and keep topping up. In theory this should only require about 100 sticks per year but I am still buying more than that.

Never mind, winter's coming and I always smoke less in winter.... or at least that's what I keep telling myself.

The worst thing for me is having singles, I want to try them but I know I will have to get another one or more to replace it.... I know it sounds stupid but I like being able to have a selection from lots of different sticks.

I'm exactly the same. I started off with a few
Singles but pretty quickly I wanted to have boxes of the cigars I liked! Ended up going on a shopping spree and spent a stupid amount of money over a 12 month period-even bought a bigger humidor to take the boxes. Got about 200 various Cubans ageing in their boxes now. Would probably take me 5 years to get through the lot but I love having boxes rather than singles, (mainly for aesthetic reasons to be honesty-I'm a little odd like that!)

I find a massive part of the enjoyment of this game is all the peripheral stuff that goes with the smoking. Proper storage, smart accessories, the lighting process and all that is equally enjoyable to smoking them in my mind!
