  • Putting it nicely.... ...saliva

    Hi Everyone.

I just wanted to ask... something I find myself doing with particular cigars,

and that is... (apologies for saying) ...spitting.

Does anyone else find themselves spitting, because tastes on the tongue become unpleasant?

I've only been smoking cigars for the past year now.

Behikes, don't make me spit. But the majority of other smokes, do.

Obviously when I find myself spitting, it can detract from the enjoyment.

The more I do it, the less I'm enjoying the cigar.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

    Many thanks,
    Simon

I think quite alot more people spit when smoking cigars nowadays (outside obviously ). It may be a health thing - not swallowing spit laced with smoke? It is usually done quite discretely - not a phlegm gargling howitzer.

I generally don't spit, but I always have a drink when I smoke a cigar, so I am diluting any spit and swallowing regularly anyway.

Yes, I'm an outdoor smoker. And like you said, it's more a small discrete spit.
I too have a tipple, alcoholic and/or non-alcoholic. But certain cigars make me spit more often.
And this is often a sign, for me, that I'm not particularly enjoying the cigar.
Some cigars I may spit say 3 times in total. Others - a hell of a lot more, to the point
where I'm not enjoying the smoke and have to lay it to rest.

        I must confess that I'm a spitter...

I've never felt any need to spit when smoking a cigar, and this is the first I've ever heard of it! 😦

Me Neither . Possibly milder smokes would be the answer, or a lighter draw? But spitting isn't something I'd consider normal when smoking expensive cigars.

Preferred solution would be stick to Behikes

I'd forgotten that when I first took up the leaf, I used to salivate like crazy and need to spit almost constantly. Nowadays not at all....fine when in the garden on your own but less sociable anywhere else :what:

                          Sorry guys!!!!

I agree - a filthy habit, for sure. But it's just a small 'watery' spit.
No offense intended - just wondered if I was the only one, or maybe it's because
my palette isn't as fully developed? ....just thought I'd mention it

                            Aye. Concurrence there ^^

But adding onto that, i should preface: I'm on the suburban area of a major city where people return from the metropolis's core and look out of place with their suits in the suburbs with the other folk who are out for an evening or afternoon stroll in sweats and home attire. No doubt the suits will switch once they're home.. but nonewithstanding, it's an interesting melange of classes wandering about between the hours of 0700 - 1900. one thing though: they all seem to spit. Not on the ground though (well most people anyways.. ), they're careful to do it on the grassy pasture.

Growing up around this area, i don't find it degenerate at all for a simple light spit in the green when i'm in the suburbs. but i'd almost never do it downtown or anywhere indoors (well DUUUUH). it's like a whole new country when you see the differences between the city core and the suburbs. if i do feel the need to spit downtown, i normally do with with my head lowered and in the corner as if not to offend. so, like most habits, there's a time and place for everything. it's sort of like when you visit a new country and you start to bite back on habits in case of a culture that might look negatively upon you chewing your thumb's nail or scratching your ankle in public. my habits change when i am in the city core vs when i'm walking along the empty pedestrian streets of suburbia. and when i'm in my own backyard or so? of course!

but here, i think it's relatively culturally acceptable to do it in correct parts of the city here.. enough so that when i think of "a group of smokers" the imagery in my mind is a group of mixed races standing in a circle discussing things and periodically throwing some light spits on the ground around them.... strange, eh?
anyways, those are just my 2 cents and i'm always open to criticism!
