  • New to cigar smoking

Hey guys I just would like some advise on what is nice to smoke at free time.
I havent tried large cigars yet and I bought a sampler pack with the following:

    La rica Tubitos
    Villiger Premium Tubos,
    Luis Martinez Tres Petit Corona,
    Don Ramos Petit corona,
    Davidoff Ambasadrice,
    Quorum Tres Petit Corona,
    Santa Damiana Petit Corona,
    La Invicta Panatella,
    La Invicta Corona,
    Charatan Panatela,
Henri Winterman Slim Panatelas - pack of 5.

Not sure where to start! actually I just lit a "La Invicta Panatella" it tastes similar to hamlet mini cigars which I had before.
or are my taste buds messed up ahaha!

    Looking forward to your advices.

Villiger aren't nice, neither are Henri Wintermans from my experience. The others I don't know but honestly from the looks of it I think you've not got the best deal, I'd recommend picking up some of the big name cubans and trying a few NC's before committing to a larger pack. Alec Bradley Black Markets are great cigars, so are the Trinidad Reyes. If you like those then check out a Cohiba Siglo II, try a Montecristo or a Punch cigar maybe. H. Uppmanns are also nice from what I've heard though not tried one personally.

NC's check out stuff by Drew Estate, My Father and Padron cigars are both worth checking out. Alec Bradley, Brick House, Oliva- they're all readily available in the UK.

Hey Zebedee, thanks for the suggestions!
I think what I'll do is try the ones I have and see which one I like best and see if there are any similar ones.
I'll also jot down those brands you mentioned and check them out as well

I had a winterman once and found it quite eggy, of the others I have smoked quorum and found it reasonable.

I think you have the right plan though, smoke them and see if anything catches your fancy!

Is it right to get this spicy kind of taste that numbs your tongue a little bit?
After smoking that "La Invicta Panatella" the room smells so nice hahha

I did have a La Rica Maduro Robusto not long back though and that was actually an okay smoke.

All these cigar names are so confusing! there are so many names!
How do you guys remember them so easily :P

Lol, I don't that's for sure. I'm in the same boat as you on that one!
I am starting to recognise names I have seen before and I generally know the big Cuban names.

in all honesty, it's the NC's that I find interesting. I see it a bit like whisky, scotch gets most of the plaudits automatically but if you search you can find stuff just as good if not better.

E.g The best Japanese Whisky is up there with the best from anywhere. I'm sure that the best of the rest of the cigar world can stand toe to toe with the best of Cuban with head held high.

You quickly get used to it, there generally are two or three parts to a cigars name and suddenly it doesn't seem so daunting.

Going to pick my favourite smoke recently, the Alex Bradley Black Market Robusto.
Alec Bradley is the brand, like how Villiger is a brand that you've bought and Cohiba is one of the biggest brand names for Cuban cigars. The Black Market refers to what cigar it is, in shoe terms think of it as how Converse is the brand and Chuck Taylors is the style of shoe. Then you have the vitola- the shape of the cigar, in this case a Robusto. In terms of shoes, vitola is like 'high top' or 'low top' etc for converse.

Also Yamazaki is a damn nice whisky.

Time mate, for cubans check out cubancigarwebsite.com for info. Smoke through what youve got but for your next purchase I would recomend looking at some cuban petite coronas e.g bolivar PC, Uppmann PC, Partagas shorts.

HAha thats a great way explaining to a newbie like me!
It makes so much more sense now. So all I have to remember is BRAND - STYLE - SHAPE

I guess my next choice of cigars should be cuban brands? Been seeing a lot of debate between cuban vs non cuban cigars.
Are "petite" cigars have less flavour in them since they are thinner?

Some people would take that as sacrilegious. No, some (most) of my greatest smokes have been skinnies. The reason I suggested the petite corona was for not too much money it gives a good idea on the marca (brand) flavour profile.

Thats a fantastic site! I might be asking for a bit much, but is there anything like that for NC's?

Cigar Inspector does a reasonable job of reviewing non-Cubans, but it's not really like the other site.
