I've been reading that the Reyes need at least a year age on them to smoke well.
        Is this true?

Silly question, but if the box date they're from is say 2011, can I ideally fire one up in a weeks time (received two today)?

        Cheers,
        Si

Good to go. Reyes are better slightly young .... loose a bit of their taste and twang as they get older IMO.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

            Cheers tippexx,

Looks like I'll be firing one up if not this weekend, then next week sometime

Really? I had a Reyes the other day that tasted shit, most that I've spoken to reckon the Reyes is best at around 2/3 years of age. A 2011 one should be fine though after a little rest in your humi though.

                Cheers Zebedee.

I guess I'll find out soon enough

Will age the second if need be, depending how the first one smokes

I think that's about right, chico... anything under a year is not good to go, IMO.

                    Interesting, senor
tripleXXX. Haven't noticed the same with the older Reyes I've enjoyed, but will have to pay a wee bit more attention next time now that you mention it.

Just a quick update on the two Reyes I received this morning.
                        Box date: NOV 10

So technically, good to go in the next couple days/next week

I think its hard to put a 'time' required on any cigar.

My advise is , always give it 3 months minmium when you recieve a box to allow it to stablise and adjust to your prefered stoarage humidity before you taste it.

for most cigars, 2 years after the box date will smoke fine, if they don't then, don't expect it will become magical. similar to fine wine, if its rubbish when young it almost certainly will be rubbish forever.

aged cigar taste only comes after 10 years of box date. i have had many 4 -6 years old puff, I can't detect much difference to 2 years old puff.

box variation, cigar to cigar variation even from same box.

too many variables too many unkown, just buy 2 boxes of the smoke you like one too keep and let it age for at least 10 years, and the other box keep smoking it.

also to age or not to age will be a matter of how you treat each box, when you recieve a new box, if its dark and oily and has very strong armoa, you can choose to age those and if the cigars are rather light coloured and the aroma is nto very powerful, smoke those.......i really enjoy those young puff with light wrapper, they are usually smoother and nicer than the dark and pugent young puff.

Each to his own..but if anyone is idiot enough to put a box away for 10 years without sampling periodically ..then more fool them!!
It's nonsense that cigars only show aged properties after 10 years or any amount of years for that matter..it's also guesswork to say that dark & oily with a strong aroma will age any better...
My advice is simple & from my own experience...sample regularly & if they are good ..smoke them...
