  • Cigar Box / Make shift humidor

A right newbie question here chaps....

    Q. Can you use a Behike box as a humidor, if you pop in a humidifier and form of hygrometer?

I was thinking to use it to store small sticks (Half Corona H.Upmanns)

Yes you can, or set up a tuperware.

Do you think the box lid will close tight enough to hold a decent seal, to contain humidity?

      Thanks,

It works reasonably well but you will need to be more vigilant, if you use a tuperware it will require less.

All boxes are meant as a temporary humidor. How else do they travel huge distances from Cuba and still remain fresh??
The problem lies with the size though. That's the ultimate worry because very few things can fit in a Siglo II cedar slide box right?

Maybe your BHK box could work as a 5ct handy travel humidor

I wouldn't recommend using any other boxes but the Bhk box has a good seal because of its construction.

Simon you could always add a seal strip around the lid to help with the seal.

Personally I use a Bhk box for my lighter, cutter matches etc at home.

I just checked all my other boxes, and i fully agree. The RYJ and H Upmann nail sealed boxes are great till opened. then it kinda simple sucks at any kind of seal..... Cohiba slide boxes are the same..

the esplendido box works nicely though. oh and most ceramic jars!!

Boite nature usually have a good seal & the lid as well as having flanges is closed by a clip or clips.. I have a RA phoenicio & P/32 that hold really well with just a humipak...

I had a Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios box which worked well as a humi.

                            Just an update.
The Behike box closes beautifully, as it seems to close magnetically at the front.
I will look in to getting a spare humidifer to pop in. I've got a spare hygrometer.
It's only to store a few smaller sticks
Will test it out for a week or more before using.
