Newbie & Humidor!
Hello, glad I found this forum!
I started enjoying cigars a few months ago after sampling one of my friends Romeo y Juliettas whilst on a night out. Having never smoked (anything) before and being a strict non-drinker I assumed that I'd be sick instantly - however was pleasantly surprised to find the cigar had what could be best described by a novice as "coffee-like" characteristics and I really enjoyed it.
Fast forward a couple of months and I've bought myself a cheap ?50 desktop humidor (humidifier puck & hygrometer included) I first calibrated my hygrometer (salt water solution) and got it reading 75%, I then let the puck sit in distilled water for 30 minutes, fitted it in the humidor and then put a whiskey class into my humidor to allow it to breath in water (i didn't fancy going down the route of painting the cedar with distilled water)
I checked the hygrometer after three days and got a reading of 70%
At what point is the humidor ready? Some people have suggested leaving the glass in the humidor for 4/5 days whilst others have suggested 2/3 weeks, I don't mind how long the process takes but want to get things right first time (for the sake of the cigars I'll be storing!) if I leave the glass in there too long could I over humidify the wood? (if there is such a thing)
