  • Is there a 'Cuban' Doctor in the house?

I had a beer with a good friend of mine in London yesterday and he told me about his amazing trip to Cuba a few years ago. He then said to me that he bought a box of Cohiba Esplendidos but hasn't looked after them. They have just been lying around his house, have dried out and also has a bit of mold on too.

He sent me this photo so that i could ask the question on here?

I thought the mold problem would need sorting first and then to slowly hydrate the cigars in a humidor bag? Does anyone have any advice please?

Wipe off the mould and then slowly rehydrate them if they are authentic.

Also, upon second glance. These esplendidos look quite off to me.
Take a viddy on the white dots. Some are being cut off by the Cohiba border. And others have the look that a fourth line is being added on.
If i were you, i wouldn't buy these. Esplendidos are the most notorious for being rip-offs and these might be part of that umbrella. Coming from Canada (we have a huge connection with Cuba so we also have a HUGE grey market of cigars), I can tell nowadays what's a fake and what's a real. I personally wouldn't buy these because of the band themselves.

What's he asking for them? If it's anything under 15quid for one (even 20 is edgy), i can guarantee a Fauxiba.

He doesn't want to sell, we got talking and I offered to try and find some help to see if we could get them fixed.

ah alright. well so no harm to you then
However, do take a look at their authenticity. have you pictures of the box? (top and bottom) that can always help with identification. only if he wants of course.

I think Butternut is right....those bands are off. The Espi is probably the most faked of all smokes...

Shouldn't take much rehydration (as long they haven't been kept in an airing cupboard or near a radiator, though the mould suggests they haven't). Humidity in the UK over the last few years as averaged within what's tolerable for cigars so they ought to rescue OK.

A couple of years back, I was given some of my Brother-in-Law's cigars which had been forgotten in their box, up in his loft for years .... they smoked fine!
If you want to, you can.
