I wouldn't worry about it, Arf.

I believe it's normal for our taste buds to go "off" occasionally regardless of what we've recently eaten or drunk (although these can affect cigar flavour as well).

There have been times when one of my go-to smokes just don't taste right and other times when a known "meh" smoke will seem exceptional.

Comes with the territory, I guess.

Yes, there's lots on there ay? It's been bandied around the 'net for a while, and I do not know its origin but expect it was not designed initially for cigars. Although I grabbed that quickly yesterday, I've had a version in the PC for a good few years. It's been on the forum before, but i can't find it. I must say, I'm rubbish at getting the finer nuances of smokes and perhaps that's down to not paying enough attention! I've just downloaded a good copy to my 'phone from Puff.com if anyone's interested

I smoke pretty much everyday.... I enjoy my cigars a great deal but I think you have to accept someone who smokes cigars more conservatively is probably better placed, if they have an understanding and a "wise" pallet, to discern all the flavours. My gob must be shot to to ribbons.

I'm not so sure about that. Surely practice makes perfect right? I bet you can analyze more of a cigar's flavour profile as a more frequent cigar smoker than I am.

I seriously think that if anything will ruin your palette for flavour it is smoking. I am to cigar aficionados what maintenance alcoholics are to wine buffs! Lol

Naaaah, it shouldn't work that way. You know that tingly feeling you get when you reach the end of the cigar and you can no longer hold in the smoke anymore? Well yea, that can always damage your little buds on your tongue. And every draw technically has small amounts on it.
Don't think you'll be like Homer when he sets his tongue on fire and he then gets SUPERTASTEBUDS which makes him taste every little flavour that goes in his mouth, so all he can eat is grade school cafeterium food.

I believe many of us read reviews and doubt our taste buds, i sometimes wonder how we can taste chocolate, caramel, woody, earthy notes with a leathery finish in one cigar ! But there we go.
Best not smoke a cigar unless you have the time and conditions right to enjoy it at its best and tbh in the UK we havnt had great opportunities for an outside smoke.
Sometimes/most times a tighter draw will alter the flavours .
Im sure you wont stop trying till one hits the spot ! All the best
