  • Loss of your cigar tastes palette? ....

I ask because I'm a little worried about mine. By many accounts my review yesterday of the PL Lonsdales RE 2006 could/might have been more positive than it was. But, I could detect nothing much flavourwise other than tobacco. Was it the cigar or was it ME.

This morning I decided to test myself. I chose a Party Shorts 2010. I've smoked (and reviewed) them before and have been able to pick out most of the tastes, flavours and nuances which characterise the cigar. But this morning, same thing, just caramalised tobacco then Meh!

    Has anyone else experienced this?

We all get ones like that; a cigar which doesn't live up to that vitola's usual complexity.

I personally also find that sometimes I go through phases where I get so much more out of cigars than other times, and vice versa. I'll be unimpressed with my usual favorites. Same goes for my general appetite for cigars. Sometimes I'll go months without touching one, and sometimes I'll smoke a dozen in a week (which is a lot for me).

Holy hell mate, a dozen a week then none for months?!
Wouldnt you feel some signs of withdrawl from that?? My mates try to curb it by adhereing to a strict 3/ week MAX.
On the up side, that must do wonders for ageing

For me all the time. Sometimes it is 'just a cigar'. Sometimes your fine but 3 flat sticks in a row convince you otherwise.

Somtimes it is a ethereal, urika experience that keeps you happy for months.

Sometimes two sticks from the same box can be chalk and cheese. If two of you smoke them together it is clear to see. Own our own we ask questions of ourselves.

The biggest variance I've found from smoking the same sticks at different stages has been the weather, cold/wet vs hot/sunny seems to me to affect the palette a lot, also the same with what food you have eaten days before. Much like cutting out salt from your diet, it take two weeks+ for your tastebuds to adjust.

Not at all. For some reason I just don't get addicted to stuff.

And yes, it does me lots of favours when it comes to ageing my collection. Although on other times I find myself going through ones I should give more time to.

I can also go months without a cigar - I may occasionally look at my humi and really fancy one, but can't find the moment of place to have it (but it won't unduly bother me).

Back on topic though... I'm exactly the same, sometimes I'll sit down with a cigar and get nothing. Even to the extent that I can tell that it's not the cigar - I can tell there's lots going on, and it's complex, but can't really pick it apart and appreciate the elements. Very annoying if I've picked one for a review, but in that situation I just screw up the paper and try to enjoy the hour of serenity, rather than the flavours.

No Pete, med free. I haven't seen a doctor in 13 years other than for some injections and a tetanus booster for Turkey. I would like to say I'd eaten something unusual .... but SWIMBOs pretty weekday predictable.

I received an email today from a cigar review website with a good taste chart on. But I'm not sure if I can tell you or not and I cannot PM yet.
