Forgive the ramblings of a newbie, but I thought I'd take 10 minutes to let you all know how I have been getting on since I smoked my first proper cigar at a friend's house a month ago.
As those of you who read my intro (http://www.ukcigarforums.com/showthr...om-west-London) will know, I was offered a Siglo IV at a mate's around a month ago, and loved it, so decided to read a little about keeping cigars. Anyway, I bought a cheap humidor and taking advice I read on this forum I seasoned it over a 2 week period before loading it up with the few cigars I had at that time (a couple of samplers from CGars and some cigars that had been recommended to me). Humidity has remained pretty constant around 66% since, but I have ordered some beads from Hartfelt and as soon as they arrive they will replace the basic oasis that came with the humi.
Because of the weather it hasn't been easy to find time to have a smoke (I don't smoke in the house), but I have tried a few, and these are my initial thoughts on those I have smoked.....
1) HdM Petit Robusto - I have to say I've really enjoyed the 3 of these I've smoked. Nice easy draw, lots of smoke & a mild taste. The second time I had one the burn wasn't even, but I am pretty sure that was my fault with the lighting rather than an issue with the cigar itself. They take me a good 40 minutes to smoke, which is perfect when it's not great weather.
2) Cohiba Siglo I - I wasn't that impressed TBH - it was OK, but the wrapper cracked by the band and staretd to come apart.
3) Montecristo No4 - Preferred this to the Siglo I, but it wasn't quite as smooth
4) Partagas Petit Coronas Especiales - really enjoyed this, and will probably buy a few more
5) Punch Tres Petit Coronas - not impressed. The draw wasn't easy and it didn't produce much smoke.
6) H.Upman Petit Coronas - quite nice - very peppery towards the final 3rd, but it was a nice easy smoke lasting 45 minutes.
I also went along to 10 Manchester Street last Wednesday night and had an enjoyable couple of hours there. I chose a Juan Lopez Seleccion Suprema (UK Regional Edition - 2009) - and boy, did I enjoy that. It's a shame I don't have the budget to smoke a ?30 cigar every day!
So what have I learned so far? Well, I initially it seems I'm more into the larger gauge cigars, and I've already realised I need another humidor so I can put some away to age (probably I'll set up a tupperdore for that, and keep the small one I have as a "ready to smoke" box ) so with (fingers crossed) a bit of good weather coming I'm looking forward to trying a few more.
