  • Petit Tubos white mould

So I just got a box of 10 of these Montes for 50 CAD or 30 quid.
Found out why now. Two of them has some white mould on em.
Tiny white spots to the size of pre-teen's spots.
2 rubs with my thumb gets rid of em immediately. Now the two infected cigars are like their healthy comrades
I say all the cigars out of their tubes in the box now. What do I do with em now?? How dangerous / safe are them now?

    Thanks for any help!

Ah really? Would they infect other cigars though?? And i assume it's quite harmless then??

Also, i just realised these are the same size as the #4s.... Are these Monte #4s!?!

I'd never say mould is harmless. But the spores are all around us. The others will have spores in them, but they won't grow till the conditions are right. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspergilloma

Don't panic. See here : (removed link, see below)

Rejoice! To find white powdery spots is a good sign that your cigars are aging beautifully. The appearance of these white spots, called bloom or plume, means that the essential oils contained in the tobacco have come to the surface of the cigar. They are easily brushed off.
However, if the spots are blue/green, fuzzy and leave a stain when you brush them off, the spots are probably mold. Mold is a damaging fungus that results from storing cigars in too high humidity and will ruin the taste of your cigars. In this case, separate the affected cigars from the others and clean your humidor. Leave your cigars outside the humidor for a few days until you are sure that the mold growth has stopped. It is important to bring down the humidity inside the humidor before placing the cigars in it again.

If the mold appears to be just on the surface of the wrapper and has not spread to the interior, the taste may not be affected.

Little medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these. Brush off the mould, (I use a hog hair artists brush), then alllow them to dry a little, before putting them in humi. If you not sure of the source I'd quarrentine in a seperate humi/coolador incase they weren't frozen before leaving Cuba. A clasic case of caveat emptor.

Sometimes I wonder if mould = plume in the same way as we in IT say bug = feature

Ah, that's magnificent. Always wondered what the moulds were called and what they ACTUALLY were..
Also, I don't think they'd get in my lungs anyways with the whole "cigar being set on fire" thing.

My humidor's at 65% now anyways, so it's all good.
