  • Is this the dreaded Tobacco Bettle?

    photo.jpg

    Hello to you all,

I am relatively new to the world of cigars, I have recently purchased a Arturo Fuente Short Story from an online retailer.

When the cigar arrived I noticed a small white circle with that appeared to be a hole in the middle (please see picture). Concerned that the cigar might contain a tobacco bettle I have placed the stick in a zip tight bag and put it in the freezer. I then plan to place it in the refrigerator, day at room temp and then back in the humidor.

What do you reckon from the picture is this indeed the work of the tobacco bettle or is it some form of mould etc.

    Thank-you all for your help

    Dave

No I haven't yet as wanted to make sure it was something to be concerned about and exactly what it was.

Doesn't look like a beetle hole to me, though I could be wrong.

The ones I have seen look like woodworm holes. If it is really bad then the holes join up and the cigar looks like it will collapse in on itself.

Looks like an imperfection to me, hard to tell but the holes I've seen look, er, holey, and that looks like an imperfection.

Doesn't matter what it is...you've done the right thing...so no worries.

I doubt from the photo it is beetle, it just looks like a blemish..

If your still concerned, get yourself a thermos of tea & a rolled up newspaper...watch the spot for 48hrs...if it moves ...belt it...job done...

Just to be on the safe side, when you're happy with it being back on humidity, set fire to that pointy end, suck the smoke the out the other end and fumigate the whole thing down to about an inch long. Sorted

Beetle holes are neat round holes, as said above like woodworm. Probably best to cremate it if it is there.

Agreed. Smoke it and forget all about beetles for a bit.
If you want to, you can.

Definitely. Even if it is a beetle hole there probably won't be a beetle in it. Maybe eggs or even larvae if it has been stored at a warm enough temperature for the eggs to hatch.

If you get an omelette aroma coming off the cigar when you smoke it then you may have been right.
