Pretty much settled for this shed, will get it delivered if I ever get some time off.

Thinks for tips all. Probably go for electric heaters first then put I'm wood stove later on once established....or winter comes round!

Will keep an update thread going...

Great thread... just need a garden! Very jealous of all this mention of heating a space to smoke!

Great looking den, will be good for those wet summer days we sometimes get in the south. I use a halogen type heater , safest and cheapest.

Deano, the main point here is the warming up time.
My Cybershed doubles as an office so I have electricity in there and I use Ethernet over power so I can get fast broadband.

When I got the electrics fitted I had a switch/circuit breaker fitted in the house. This means that I can switch the electrics off when I am not out there. I leave a fan heater switched on when I leave the shed and then switch everything off in the house. this means that on a cold morning I can switch on in the house and I know it will be snug and warm by the time I have made a cup of tea to take out with me.

The other think I would say is find a suitable chair. I went on ebay but I know Bryan went on Freecycle. Get yourself a nice knackered old leather chair and smoke away. My red leather wing chair cost ?15 on the bay plus a 30 mile round trip to collect it but after an hour cleaning and polishing it's beautiful.

As long as it's leather, smokey smell doesn't get ingrained in leather and the ash brushes off easily.

Going back to the shed does anyone know what sort of base is needed to support it?

I ask because my garden is raised around 3 feet above the road and I would want to make sure that if I invested this sort of cash it wouldn't be liable to subsidence.

Now I'm thinking of spending a bit more, to get a thicker wood-type for insulation. 19mm seems way too thin.

                    E.g.

(No idea what the dragon thing is all about)

Maybe go for 45mm, no idea how much difference that's going to give heat-wise over 28mm though!

No idea mate. I'm putting a concrete one under mine, but wouldn't want to suggest what you should do about subsidence.

Concrete base is the best way but must be done properly with re-bar in or you can put down a 2" hard core base with cheap old paving slabs put on top.

Both will need manual labour Deano so don't forget to wear gloves to protect your soft hands..

CohibaIV I utterly resent that you'd think I'd damage my 'soft hands'.

Obviously I'll be getting someone else to do it for me.

That's just throwing away decent money to do a very simple job...

Put extra moisturiser on and do it yourself...

Finally put a deposit down nearly a year later, and a house move later too!

Gone for 44mm insulated corner cabin. It's very small but all I can have permission from the missus in the garden! Will do the job for me and another smoker!

Ensured I went for floor and ceiling insulation too, though with my cheap gas fire it should be pretty damn warm anytime of the year.
