  • Cuban cigars are best, it's official

    Just seen this on Facebook:

This chart, which ranges from 1992 to 2012, shows Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider scores from major cigar countries.

In 20 years, Cigar Aficionado has rated 15k cigars. Aside from a few years in the mid-2000s, Cuban cigars have consistently rated the highest.

Do you think Mexican refers to those glass top Cohiba's?

Nice research! Interesting that USA does so well... do you think the tasters are bias when reviewing Cubans?

        Nice find Nic.

I find that the American palette likes a lot more kick/pepperiness in their smokes compared to Cubans, going on the cigars I've tied so far.

Not that I've tried many NC's

What I find astounding (and a bit silly) is the average score is around 90 (or 9 out of 10).

Now to my mind a normal (perfectly good) stick is a 5 or 6, a really good stick is a 7 or 8, and for a 9 or more it would have to be up there with the best. I think I probably smoke 1 or 2 '9's' a year and perhaps one "10" (if I am lucky).

+1 to Monkey's comment. I mark out of 100 & my highest score so far is is 98 & only 5 over 95. Now to be 100 in IMHO means it's absolutely perfect but how can you compare if you haven't had an absolutely perfect cigar? I think it's like the teenage question of am I really in love for the first time, when you haven't known such feelings before. You only tend to know/appreciate these things afterwards looking back. Looking back I have had more perfect cigar moments but scoring system will stay as it is for now.

PS Yes they are biased & most yrs there's only one or two Havanas in their top ten, how's that consistant with this graph?
