Guess I'm just a Luddite, but twentyfive quid plus to smoke a Trinidad Reyes just ain't me!
I'm with you all the way on this. The days when we could just sit around a pub fire with our pipes and pints are lost treasure. One of my fondest memories is sitting with 5 others in a huge inglenook fireplace in a pub in Dorset. All our smoke went up the chimney so where on earth was the health and safety problem ? Bloody progress !!

The answer's simple - folk with common sense ! Too much banging your head against a wall - it inhibits free thinking. Also - I've only ever been mugged once - it was in Southampton !

There are places in London which price their cigars to scare people off, ( I have heard as much as 30 - 50% over normal London list). They have limited space and they want high rollers. So you just need to hunt around, avoid anywhere near Knightsbridge and in the heart of Mayfair and you can find some great places to smoke in the warm.

One day I might have a 'house' in London where 'friends' can come to my private property, smoke cigars and 'donate' to my registered charity.

Your statement Nic, is quite depressing...Have you ever thought of the spiral you are in..& condoning...
Who do "these places pay their way" too?...
"Rates/cost of property are huge" why?...
"not realistic" ...it was realistic in recent history & is still realistic.
We need to stop pandering to those who make the rules, government, private clubs, big industry, banks & the other unnecessary greedy bastards that run our now corrupt & bankrupt country...
Rise up from the yoke BOTL ...let us start the revolution....burn down Boisdales....

I feel sorry for any youngster in this country who wants to get on....your extra 5K should be put to your future..not daily living expenses...go and see a good financial advisor & find out just how big your pension pot will need to be in 50 yrs time, 5K is chump change now, what'll it be worth then is anybody's guess...or just live in the sheep pen like your government wants...

Square footage in London costs a fortune... Never mind waiter service, marble flooring, running gas heaters etc. Of course you have to pay more for your cigar. You don't expect to pay the cost of the ingredients for a cup of tea in a cafe.

No. Service comes at a price. But I don't expect to pay a fiver for a cuppa either!
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

And who benefits?...Maldives..excellent holiday destination, 5 star resort, waiter service, etc. etc. etc. The owners still pay the waiters jack shit!
I tip like a madman when on these holidays, privately, directly into the hands that serve...
I know it really doesn't do any good & these places wouldn't be open except for investment...but why is it the owners still rob the poor man....greed.no more, no less...

In a shack! cheeky young whippersnapper, I'm just about to choose a smoke from one of my Cuban humidors to go & sit in my nice warm comfy well stocked bar & smoke...then I may go down to my garage & polish the TR4 or even the Mulsanne Turbo..retirement at 55 is such a strain.
