  • Limited editions and the likes of Esplendidos and BHK etc!

So opinions please, are limited editions and the aforementioned just overly priced or is there actually a reason why they are sooo expensive, i.e. aged tobacco or better quality leaf, i can't help thinking that one is paying for the name or they are aimed at the collectors? As yet, apart from the odd aged one i have purchased, i have never splashed out on a 'really' premium buy!

Yes. Overly priced. Aged tobacco. Aimed at collector's. All of the above really.

As with all the standard lines, some are worth it, some are not.

Like special editions of any consumable really...

Agree. Best way to find the good ones is to follow the reviews here, there, anywhere.

        hmmmm.....tough one

There are good LE's, bad LE's and awesome LE's (Partagas Serie D No. 3 LE 2001 for example)

What is good about them is that every year there is something new to try.

Without the LE's being produced the cigar market wouldn't be as buoyant........and the forums would run out of topics
If you got 'em, smoke 'em !

It is a game of look, spend and see.

My biggest gripe with the majority of EL's is i find the maduro wrapper ruins the profile for me.

The regional release merry go round is even worse.

Also worth considering (as with a lot of CC's) smoking them new is rarely a true indicator of what they will become.

Just a note to say that the Cohiba Esplendido is a regular construction, and though widely lauded, is just a standard produced vitola.

I think that LE's are rarely worth the price tag. For the price of a recent LE you can pick up an aged regular production cigar that will smoke much better right now. There are a few exceptions (and these usually have a bit of age on them), but IMO there are a lot more average LE's than great ones.

As for Esplendidos and BHK's, I think that they are probably worth buying if you intend to age them and get them out for special occasions in a few years. But if you want a cigar that will smoke well right now I'd still suggest going for aged regular production.
If you want a midget to look like a baby, don't put a cigar in his mouth.

Good advice or buy some like ERDM Choix Supreme, RASS etc. Both are smoking well from young boxes.

To address the OP's question, yes & no. Like others have said there are good LE & RE cigars, there are also duds. Just because it has "LE" or "RE" on a band does not mean it is worth the money but there are gems to be had if you do the research.

Muchacho Mandownunder - I've never tried the ERDM Choix Supreme (although I have one 19 year old stick resting in don TJ's unit ), I ordered a box tonight based solely on your recommendation. OMG! What Have I done?

I sure hope you're right about 'em!

If not, bring your bat my friend & we can compare "size". LOL.
