So opinions please, are limited editions and the aforementioned just overly priced or is there actually a reason why they are sooo expensive, i.e. aged tobacco or better quality leaf, i can't help thinking that one is paying for the name or they are aimed at the collectors? As yet, apart from the odd aged one i have purchased, i have never splashed out on a 'really' premium buy!

hmmmm.....tough one
There are good LE's, bad LE's and awesome LE's (Partagas Serie D No. 3 LE 2001 for example)
What is good about them is that every year there is something new to try.
Without the LE's being produced the cigar market wouldn't be as buoyant........and the forums would run out of topicsIf you got 'em, smoke 'em !

It is a game of look, spend and see.
My biggest gripe with the majority of EL's is i find the maduro wrapper ruins the profile for me.
The regional release merry go round is even worse.
Also worth considering (as with a lot of CC's) smoking them new is rarely a true indicator of what they will become.

I think that LE's are rarely worth the price tag. For the price of a recent LE you can pick up an aged regular production cigar that will smoke much better right now. There are a few exceptions (and these usually have a bit of age on them), but IMO there are a lot more average LE's than great ones.
As for Esplendidos and BHK's, I think that they are probably worth buying if you intend to age them and get them out for special occasions in a few years. But if you want a cigar that will smoke well right now I'd still suggest going for aged regular production.

To address the OP's question, yes & no. Like others have said there are good LE & RE cigars, there are also duds. Just because it has "LE" or "RE" on a band does not mean it is worth the money but there are gems to be had if you do the research. What would I know?
