They do look a little off to me, but i don't know the specific things that give them away. Let's just say they'd get me suspicious, but i wouldn't be convinced they're fakes. I would guess it's mostly the box that has the signs, but what exactly gives these ones away?
We all go through a steep learning-curve when it comes to CC's. I spent years chasing fakes and crap cigars as I learnt. A great source of info is Trevor's site http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/
This cover nearly all regular cigars produced and (even for many serious collectors) the first point of call with an unusual question. Second common public source of information is Min Ron Nee's book but it has been out of print for several years and is very expensive. Several members have a copy so it is a useful resource to post if one has a particular question about a 'unusual' cigar.
NB - I would suspect the condition of those cigars is mainly down to having 10 loose, dry (un-humidified) cigars rattling around in the box ...through the US postal service. This will damage any stick. Nice knives though.

I know that I still have a lot to learn about CCs, but I think that avoiding getting ripped off is fairly straightforward as long as you use your common sense. My rule of thumb is to only buy from trusted vendors like the forum sponsor or from a LCDH. I think that receiving fakes is relatively unlikely if you stick to this rule.
Of course, this means that you might miss out on bargains from other sources, but 9 times out of 10 you get what you pay for and offers that seem too good to be true probably are. I'd rather pay a bit extra for peace of mind than risk getting ripped off by grey market sellers.
If you want a midget to look like a baby, don't put a cigar in his mouth.
These Cohibas are 100% legit. They were a very special production commissioned in 2001 by a group of wealthy happy few, and were rolled in the utmost discretion at one of the factories in Villa Clara.
How this guy has managed to get hold of a box is really surprising! Unbelievable…
