I admire his collection, but I've never really understood the mentality of the 'pure' collector. As far as I'm concerned, products are made to be used and people who buy them with no intention of ever using them are just obsessive hoarders who call themselves collectors to cover up their obsession!
Don't get me wrong, I can be a bit obsessive about cigars and I really enjoy owning them. I often admire my small 'collection', but for me part of that pleasure is the thought of eventually smoking them. I've never bought a cigar that I don't intend to smoke at some point.
I understand that people can get a lot of enjoyment from collecting whisky, watches or whatever else, but I don't get why someone would buy a whisky that they never intended to drink, or a watch that they never intended to wear. I understand why you would save that rare cigar or whisky for a special occasion and why you wouldn't wear your expensive watch every day, but owning these things simply for the sake of owning them seems completely pointless!
Of course people can do what they like with their money...but that doesn't mean that I understand why they're doing it!Last edited by crusse; 07-09-2012, 12:40 PM.

I guess it's a fine line, at what point does someones collection go beyond something you 'use'? When you have enough for a year, ten years, the rest of your life, more? I know I intend to smoke my cigars, but in the past two years I have been buying more seriously than before and at current smoking rates have ten+ years worth mostly collected in the last two, at this rate within the next 5-10 years I'd have more than I would smoke (at current smoking rates) before I die!
(and be divorced, and have a house like that obsessive hoarder but it would all be tupperdors!)
This man does smoke cigars, is perhaps less obsessive about the minutae of detail than some of us, but just kept buying by the looks of it!

Finally got round to watching these.I guess I'm of the majority opinion in that if I had even half of such a stash I'd be getting stuck in with the smoking and spreading a few around,I like to think But I've no strong feelings re whether he's smoking, collecting or whatever. As was said earlier, his money, his choice, all fair enough."The most futile and disastrous day seems well spent when it is reviewed through the blue, fragrant smoke of a Havana cigar."
