  • Total newbie looking for advice please.

Hi everyone I hope I find you all well. I am a total newbie when it comes to cigars and I would like some advice where I would be able to find as much information about makers/brands etc.
I have only smoked the odd cigar in the past but I'm off to the USA on hols and would like to buy some while I'm there to enjoy with a bourbon. There is a cigar shop called sosa's so I would like some advice as to what type, brand of cigar would be best to start with.

    Hope this makes sense.

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum. As I'm sure you know, you can't legally buy Cuban cigars in the USA, but in my opinion the following non-Cuban cigars are all excellent smokes:

Oliva Series V, anything by Padron, most Rocky Patels, the Arturo Fuente Hemingway line, Ashton VSG, most Tatuajes.

For budget cigars, you could do a lot worse than trying CAO golds and La Traviata, the Arturo Fuente Flor Fina 858 and the Flor de Oliva series.

I've also heard a lot of good things about the Liga Privada line from Drew Estate, but I haven't tried them myself.

    Hope this helps.
If you want a midget to look like a baby, don't put a cigar in his mouth.

What Crusse said plus I quite like a Nub. Gurkha's are good too.

I think there are a lot of Non Cubans that you can get hold of in the US. You might find some sticks that others on here haven't had so you could find info out to share.

        Have fun.

Hi everyone, just wanted to update this post. Well I'm back from my hols and just about over the jet lag. I only got chance to visit Sosa once and bought 2 Oliva conneticut robusto's on the recommendation of the guy in the shop. The first one I smoked I didnt really enjoy (my fault) Due to being pestered by the family to hurry up and finish I got through the cigar in about 20 mins which didn't give me time to enjoy the tastes and which left me a little light headed, a little sick. I think i smoked it way too quick and may even have inhaled some smoke too.
The 2nd cigar i smoked while the kids and wife were asleep one evening and took about 50 minutes to go through it. Much better experience ! Nice woody/earth tastes with just a hint of spice.
Now I'm back i intend to buy some more cigars, what is the best way to store them. I really don't want to invest in a humidor just yet.
            Thanks
            Scott

Do a forum search for Tupperdor... A humidor cunningly disguised as a Tupperware or lock and lock box available from all good outlets! You then just need some humidity control, I started out using Boveda pouches (eBay is your friend for these) or grab a humidity puck from CGars ltd...

              Simples!
