  • Flavoured / Infused cigars

Ever since I started smoking cigars, I've made an effort to try a wide range of different smokes, including both Cubans and NCs, but I've never tried a flavoured or infused cigar.

I guess that what I like best about cigars is that they taste of high quality tobacco with subtle hints of other flavours, so the idea of a cigar sprayed with chemicals to taste like cherry bubblegum or banana ice cream doesn't appeal to me at all.

But recently I was talking to an American mate of mine about cigars, and he got me wondering whether I should give infused cigars a go. He normally smokes decent NCs - Padrons, Rocky Patels, Ashtons, etc., but he occasionally has an infused cigar for a change of pace. He says that he only smokes the ones that are made of decent tobacco and infused with natural oils and herbs etc such as the 'Natural' from the Drew Estate Acid line or the 'Heaven' flavoured cigars. For him, smoking an infused cigar is a bit like having a dessert and he reckons that it can be quite relaxing to have a smoke that tastes sweet and completely unchallenging from time to time.

So I was wondering if any of you had tried these kinds of infused cigars (i.e. not the ones made of cheap nasty tobacco and sprayed with nasty chemicals) and what you thought of them. I expect that I'll get a negative response from most people, but then I also reckon that there are quite a few pipe smokers on the forum who might like flavoured tobaccos. Anyway, it would be good to hear your thoughts if you've tried them.

Many moons ago when I smoked rollups I used to get some of the black cherry tobacco the local shop sold loose. It was exactly as your friend described, a nice change and something different.

Give it a go, nothing to loose really

Heavenly now make the red lion line, their first non-flavoured cigar and I rate their toro gordo (only vitola I have tried of theirs). It shows that they can produce a good quality stick with a nice blend and the construction is spot on. I guess it's not that much different from flavoured pipe tobacco, although I've not tried any good flavoured cigars, just those 'old port original' dog rockets they used to sell I supermarkets. They were rank.

From what I've heard, this is true of Drew Estate as well: they started off by just producing the Acid line (flavoured cigars) and then started branching out into the traditional cigar market. Now their Liga Privada line is getting rave reviews across the pond. I wonder if these two lines are aimed at completely different people, or if a lot of premium cigar smokers also dabble with the flavoured stuff? Maybe it's just more of an American thing?

I am tempted to buy one of those 'Heavenly' cigars, but they cost about ?10 and for that price I could buy a very decent Cuban smoke.

          Dessert Indeed!

Muchachos, I've enjoyed a few "flavored" sticks in the past. Two that come to mind as being quite decent are the Clean Robusto and the Blondie by Drew Estates. The latter is a most appealing stick for mixed company, as the birds seem to quite enjoy the sweetness of the petite Blondie.

WARNING! Exercise caution when storing your flavored or "infused" sticks, as the flavor will spread to your other fine puros if stored improperly. To avoid this, either keep your flavored sticks in a separate unit or seal them in a plastic bag before placing in your humidor.

Absolutely. What an instant waste it would be to put a flavoured cigar in with your premium sticks. Yeuchh!!!

I'm not surprised that you feel this way about flavoured cigars, I've got to admit that I'm quite skeptical too....but I also feel that I should probably try them for myself before dismissing them as junk. I take it you've tried them and didn't like them?

I've seen some people I know in the states raving about Drew Estate's, would give one a go but can't find any uk sellers. Might give a Heaven or a Vasco Da Gama a try.

It had completely slipped my mind that i had tried a whisky infused Vasco Da Gama. It was okay, nothing amazing but alright for a go. Gonna try the port infused one sometime.

i think a good cigar has plenty of flavours with out putting artificial chemicals in them

I totally agree that cigars tainted with chemicals sound horrible, but I'm curious about the ones that are supposedly infused with natural essential oils, herbs, etc. I also agree that good quality tobacco doesn't need any other flavourings, but that doesn't mean that a cigar with added natural flavours couldn't taste nice. I guess I'm just a bit curious about them to be honest.
