Best NC's? And is it worth it?

Hi everybody!

I've had the pleasure (and displeasure) of several NC cigars and was just wondering what everybody thinks of em? Im pretty convinced if anything gets close to cubans.its dominicans. Im a fan of Don Diego's which I quite like as light-medium smoke.

I also managed to pick up a unbranded bundle.of dominican robustos (packaging just had a dom.rep flag) which cost me 38 euros for a bundle of 25 and to be honest i was just planning on using them for guests who dont know or care much for cigars but they were excellent light smokes.

Fuente are 95% of the time great
Rocky Patel puts out some good stuff (Vintage, Edge, Sun Grown)
Torano Family have a number of great cigars, usually more mild end of the spectrum

Although I smoke more Cubans than anything else, I do enjoy quite a few NCs too. I don't think that it makes that much sense to compare them to Cubans - Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos have their own distinctive flavours which are very different to Cuban tobacco - but this doesn't mean that they aren't enjoyable in their own right. In my experience, Dominican cigars are mostly quite smooth and mild-medium bodied, while most Nicaraguan cigars are stronger and spicier.

My favourite NCs are the Oliva V series, Rocky Patel 1990 and the Edge, the Arturo Fuente Short Story and pretty much anything by Padron. None of them taste like Cubans, but that doesn't stop them from being excellent smokes!

i love a N.C!
loads great smokes out there but Crusse is right in that you should just enjoy them for what they are and dont compare . That is not to say i think cubans are any better, they are just different in a way i prefer

Fuente and padron are my fav premium NC's. Cao is my more affordable choice.

I've become a big fan of NC's in recent times,particularly Nicaraguan.Love the Oliva Serie V,Padron and Tatuaje,or at least those within the brands that I've had.And one stick that I've had a few of this year that has astounded me has been the Independecia 1898 Robusto from The Phillipines,a fantastic smoke with some great flavours,reminiscent of a Trini Reyes toward the end.Coming in at around ?7 - ?8 a stick makes it an absolute must try IMHO

Anyway,to answer your question,yes absolutely it's worth it.The NC market is huge for sure,but well worth an exploration.And don't let the "Only Cuban leaf is good enough" snobs convince you otherwise

I have to agree whole heartedly with Vortigan. There are a great many good cigars out there, there are also many, many dogs, but this isn't a dog forum so I don't know why I bought it up to be quote honest, please excuse me my canine blunder.......moving on..... As others have said many of th Padrons are awesome, as too are some of the Alec Bradley, Rocky Patel, Carlos Torrano, Oliva (V the others are a bit naff), La Aroma de Cuba (yes the NC version), and many really cheap cigars whch are blinding smokes, i'm thinking the La Estrella Cubana as a prime example ( a few guys here have tried them).

All in all, it's like women, they're all different and on the whole quite a few are worth getting with.

Excellent. Sounds like the Oliva and Padron's are quite popular. I will start my new world exploration this weekend in preparation for my trip to las vegas. I've been therr twice before amd ended up with some horrible cigars due to lack of knowledge

Oliva Series V not the G or O they are a little Meh.

Don't get sucked in by the likes of Gurkha though "the best cigar in the world" they're okay, but a yard smoke imho (apart from the bloody Black Dragons).

Fuente short story are a must have NC.
Padilla also make some reasonable smokes.
Try CAO La Traviata, in the US they are about $5 a stick and worth a go.
