  • Tobacco for rolling cigars at home..

As you have probably noticed a few of us have been posting about our efforts in rolling our own cigars. Some people have asked where we get the cigar tobacco from so I have messaged Deano and he said that it is ok to post the link for the site "Leaf Only" who supply the whole leaf fermented filler, binder and wrapper from all over the world. http://www.leafonly.com/

      Nice one.

I have seen some awesome examples of home rolled cigars on here.

I posted the link to a UK supplier of whole leaf tobacco in Molecularstudent's 'Cigar Odyssey' thread but in case you missed it, here it is again: http://www.wholeleaftobaccoonly.com/. The prices are a lot higher than the website above, but it might be worth it if you just want to try give rolling a try and don't want to commit to buying pounds of tobacco.

From reading the HMRC website I can't see much point in paying the uk duty in advance. You'd still have a ton of paperwork to fill in of done properly. And I assume that you will be paying duty based on cigarette tobacco.

I did come across that UK site when I was initially looking for places that sold whole leaf cigar tobacco. At the time they only had cigarette tobacco but I noticed some of the text on their (then more basic) website had been copied from LeafOnly's site. Judging by the tobacco they are selling now it is just the same stock but more expensive so I suspect they just bulk buy from them. Leaf onlys shipping rates aren't that bad but I guess the UK site ensures tax is paid up front.

Everything in the UK is overpriced.

                  Too true!

I was looking on the leaf only website this week. My only problem was where in the hell do you start to make your own blend... Maybe buy three or four fillers and have a play about, tiral and error i guess.

Yeh that was what i did. They do 1/4lb samplers so i got a few, tried them on their own and then tried a few blends. Having left a few of my first attempts to sit for a few months they are surprisingly good now. I actually would pick one of these over a few of the cheaper NC's i have in the humi. They may not be as pretty but you can't fault the favours...

So I just had a look at the LeafOnly site and they have created a few different blend starter kits which is handy. I wish they had these when I was placing my first order.

I bought 7 different sample packs.
Some of each of filler, binder and wrapper. I went for a mix to see what they are like.

There is no vat or exise duty on whole leaf tobacco as it is an unprocessed agricultural product. I did find something on a UK government site somewhere that gave the customs classification for whole leaf tobacco. If I can find it again I'll post the link.

I did send the link to Rich Stone at Leaf Only to help him with labelling customs docs for UK parcels. That didn't stop mine getting opened but it was released without charge.

Postage can be expensive from the US for larger quantities / weight but it is still cheaper than the UK I'd guess. Also I think that Leaf Only areabout to review their postage services to the UK. The cheapest service to the UK may be changing to Priority after my first order was lost in transit and they had to cover the cost of resending. First Class International doesn't include isurance for loss.
