Well !


Today I have experienced something for the first time ? a direct negative comment about cigar smoke .


I live in a terraced house and there are 9 houses in our terrace. Some of the houses share a pathway from the street. The terrace is approximately 6 feet higher than the street and our gardens are around 30 feet back from it so we have a reasonable amount of privacy.


I am separated from one neighbour by a 6 foot high fence and share a path with the other.


I have brick paved our garden to provide a big patio area that, in nice weather, we can sit out in and that is where I smoke the majority of my cigars.


I have a garden set very close to the front of our house so that I have somewhere to sit that gets shelter if it is breezy.


Today I was sat out enjoying a Partagas Lonsdale (traded with The Rodster) reading my Kindle and generally minding my own business passing the time away in a nice bit of sunshine.


About an hour into my smoke my neighbour attracted my attention from the other side of the fence to explain to me that my cigar ?absolutely reeked? and that the smell was stinking his house out. He was reasonable about it, not shouting or carrying on and he did appreciate that it was my garden and I could do what I wanted in it. He respectfully asked if I would mind smoking my cigars away from the house so that he didn't have to endure the smell.
I politely apologised, resisting the temptation to suggest that he could close his windows if he didn't like it. I moved to the other end of the garden where I have two benches to finish the remainder of my cigar.


We sorted it out amicably and as far as I am concerned no harm done.


This is the first time in nearly two years of smoking cigars that anyone has complained about a ?reek? of cigars and I was quite surprised. What really surprised me was the fact that he is a cigarette smoker.



Has anyone had similar experiences? And does anyone know the smokiest cigars available to buy.......

Montecristo No 2s are very smokey cigars (or so I have found). You could smoke up an Orphanarium with one

I'm sorry to break it to you but if you're after a cigar with a really nasty smell then you'll probably have to smoke a Hamlet or a King Edward. Still, it's a sacrifice that you might have to make if you really want to annoy your neighbours!

i find it strange considering he is a fag smoker, still i think you proberly did the right thing (or at least what i would have done). what would he be like if you had a bbq!

If you mix Bromide and Acetone you get Tear Gas - Give them something proper to cry about.

But going down the other end of the garden is just as easy.....I suppose.

Stop messing about! He already understood that its your garden etc etc tell him stop farting, or cooking with window open, bbq'ing , playing music or just plain touching your wall and speaking over your garden and get back inside his gaff before you knock him out and shoot his dog.

Yeah I'm pretty much right behind these sentiments! I guess they're not particularly "neighbourly",whatever that means.And I suppose that your response was the right one in order to maintain peace and harmony.However,he's completely invalidated his moaning by smoking his tar and formaldehyde shit which,as already stated,he more than likely sits and smokes in his lounge.So on balance,f**k him!!

How about telling him that you can smell his yellow stained living room ceiling through the walls and you don't like it! All joking aside you did the right thing though, its very important that you don't shoot his dog I feel! Haha, just try and keep the peace as having neighbours who you don't get on with is awful! Just keep smoking where you want and if he makes a thing of it again just tell him you're sorry but its your garden? That's how I would handle it anyway

hehe no two ways about it tho (shields up!) cigars do Stink!

I happen to quite like the stink of a good cigar but can totally understand those who don't too, if I was smoking my neighbours out (the ones I like) and by moving to a different spot/seat (closer to the scumbag family over the back) then it's a win-win for me!

my neighbour has complained about the smoke wafting from my shed, I told her in the nicest way I could that I will be continuing to smoke in my shed and maybe she could shut her windows of an evening when im out there if it becomes bothersome, she kind of agreed ah well.

about the fags though, I remember before the smoking ban in a pub lighting up a Monte no2 and this crazy women ( fag in hand) screaming at me about the smoke !
