Hi, i am quite new to cigar smoking and only have a moderate collection of around 50 sticks which aren?t of any considerable age due to them not hanging around long enough or as they have only just been purchased.

So what i was considering doing was building a tuppadore which i will leave out of sight and hopefully out of mind to let a handful of my favorites age to see what all the fuss is about with aged cigars.

My question is this, what do you use to label the different ones in ageing as i would like to include the date etc that they went into the tuppadore? Is it ok to just use normal white paper or will this affect the storage in anyway?

This is probably a daft question and maybe im being OTT but the only way to find out is to ask...

    Thanks

I'm lucky in that I can remember most things I've been bought so know roughly how long they have been in the humidor.

I should keep better track of gifted sticks though as I easily forget 1) what they are and 2) how old they are!

I assume normal paper would be fine. You could always attach the paper to the outside of the tuppadore, with the list of what is in there.

Just remember that you need to occasionally open to allow fresh air in and to check on you're he condition of your sticks.
I was also thinking of labelling mainly for gifted singles and box splits.

One of our number uses little coloured dots which he puts a number on and these are then cross referenced to a spreadsheet.

Bit much for me but it did help him find a very old Partagas cigar which he was good enough to share with me so it's a system that works for me!

Shop blank or custom printed cigar labels. Our patterned cigar band labels are easy to design and add a unique touch to any event.

...need to order from the US though.

              Good Question, Muchacho!

I've been aging two puros from each box I purchase for about 10 years, so labeling is an important issue for me. For this purpose, I like to use the paper sheets found in many puro boxes, usually cardboard boxes.

I cut the paper sheets into approximately 25 mm wide strips just long enough to wrap two sticks with overlap. I place a small amount of "glue stick" on the overlap and wrap the label around the puros, being careful not to get any glue on the puros, of course.

This method seems to work for me.....But what the Hell do I know????

Ahem...are you sure our number doesn't put a member on his cigars?

Names Perro, el Perro, and I'm just askin'.

Haha! Better than putting a monica on it, I guess!

Some good suggestions, thanks. Turns out im not being as OTT as i thought!

                  May go with TJ's method.

How often should they be aired?

There was another forum where someone got some labels made up. If I remember correctly he needed enough orders to run a batch of circa 50,000 to make it worthwhile. Have a google search as I'm sure he had some left

I use these every now and then for custom rolls etc.

The bands go on and come off very easily.
Shipping is cheap enough and I've never had a problem.

I never really buy the same cigar in bulk, i most often buy them in singles. Of the 80 ish in my humi, there are about 60 different types. Because of this, i find it extremely easy and efficient to simply make an archive of the cigars, containing their name (obviously), how many of them i have and when i bought them (if they are pre-aged, i instead put the date of when they were first put away to age). However, if for instance i have multiple cigars of the same type but of different ages or bought at different times, i simply separate them in the humi as best i can (usually the newest at the bottom). That way when i refer to my word document of cigars, i always know when i got them.

This probably wouldn't work if you're the type to smoke only a few different types of cigars and have a ton of different aged ones in your collection. But for those who mostly deal with singles like i do, it's gotta be the best way.

You can buy plain bands .... but a sticky dot on the regular band works and won't harm the cigar.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
