  • Help Please with my Humidor

Firstly i would just like to say hello to everybody,

I have been smoking for some time now but only just recently aquired a humidor due to a friend of mine bringing me back a nice selection from his trip to Cuba.

I have purchased a nice second hand example from the bay and have been trying to calibarate the meter by means of the salt, water and freeser bag method.
I have had this in the bag for a good five hours and have been monitoring it along the way, it has reached slightly below 80 and now started to drop and is at 67 as we speak, i believe i should adjust it to read 75 after it has been in for over six hours, the way it is falling should i still do this or have i done something drasticly wrong and should start again

Any help and advice would be greatfully recieved as i dont want to spoil my new collection.

    Tim.

Buy a digital hygrometer - for the most part analogue ones are junk!

Even a cheap digital hygro online is better than an analogue one in a humidor!

I would look at seasoning the humidor as well if you have not as this is the most important part. its 24 hours that recommended for calibrating your hygro so would try leaving it in the bag for that long to see what your reading is, but the 2 I have had with humis have both been very inaccurate and stick all the time. Much better with a digital one

That was going to be my next step Pedro, so you would leave it for 48hrs before i look at adjusting it, so it may rise again within that period.

It may rise again but it again it might not but 24 hrs gives you a chance I would leave it 24 adjust it, then put it back in for a further 24 to see if it keeps the value, it might not but as mine did not.

Some analogue ones are fine, the Adorini hair hygro is a good one. make sure you have not got high fluctuations in temp while it's being done as this may give a mis reading, 18-20 or at what your room is going to be during storage, your best bet is to get some 69% humidipak/boveda packs, these are a good way to kemp yor humidity in check as here you can re-charge these... search the forum for how.

                  Hi, welcome to the forum
I just bought myself a couple of cheap ones online (7 euros each) which have been working great, they are not able to be adjusted but my cigars feel about right and are smoking fantastically! Otherwise check out the link at the top of the page to Cgars which has a couple

Don't attempt to adjust an analogic hygro, you might screw up its mechanism - they're fragile. Just remember the delta or write it down somewhere…

I think a digital one is becoming more apealing by the minute

The xikar and Calibre ones are adjustable... cost a little more but saves having to remember the amount its out!

Apears to have settled down now and upon further inspection there is no adjustment but i think a Xikar one is on the cards.

Now i know the Hygro is working correctly what is the best way to season the Humidor as i have read several methods.
