  • Humidor Temp

My humidor is sitting at an average RH of 70% but the digital temp is 29oC. This always happens as im in a hot climate ie Mumbai where today's temp is 38oc and ambient Humidity is 78%.

The Humi is in a cupboard and the room has the AC on most of the night and during the day on and off depending on the Kids.

How can i cool it down?
Do I need to Cool it Down?
    Do high Temps spoil cigars?
I haven't personally noticed any problems but thought id ask expert opinion.

I haven't had any outbreak of beetles and check all cigars weekly. Ive been doin gthis for the last 2 years that i have been here.

This happens for the summer months ie march to June. then comes the monsoons and the Humidity spikes to 85+ and the temperatures drop somewhat. I have ordered the Puck beads from the UK and hope that can solve and maintain a good average RH but the temp is boggling me and worrying me.

There area couple of things to consider

1)beetles - possibly look into freezing your stock to kill any

2)this one is debatable higher temps with a stable RH leads to higher absolute humidity. Some people think RH is the important measure others absolute. If you start to notice poor burn or bitter flavours creep in then possibly drop your RH to compensate for the higher temps.

A possible solution would be to construct a Wineador basically converting a wine fridge to store your cigars.

On a side note, I know that people say the 70/70 rule but myself and a lot of others believe that non Cubans smoke better at 65% and Cubans closer to 60%. By doing this it cleans up the burn brings out more subtle flavours and removes the bitter flavour that can occur The puck beads come set at either 60/65 or 70%.
