My first ever proper cigar (I had only tried Hamlets and Villigers before this) was a Cohiba robusto, and although I enjoyed it I found it a bit harsh and bitter for my liking (it was clearly way too young but I didn't know that at the time). The first cigar that I really fell in love with was the party short, and to this day it's still one of my favourite quick smokes.

+1 I did really enjoiy my first couple of boxes of No4's but once I tried Hoyo Epi No2's I knew they were in a different class & would say they were my fav's after that. As I smoke ac onstant variety these days I'd say my current favs are Hoyo No2, Monte No 2, Boli CG's, RASCC, ERDM brand.

Partagas P2. i had been saving it for about half a year for my 22nd. Just sat outside with a bourbon and loved it!!!

I also have a particular passion for Arturo Fuente Cubanitos. I got 'the one for me' for either short or long smokes.

I've only ever had the 898 varnished (think I've still got a couple in the humi) and they really are top-notch cigars. Can someone enlighten me on the difference between the varnished and unvarnished versions (apart from the obvious fact that one comes in a varnished box and the other doesn't)?

Two different cigars of two different sizes,I only recently stumbled across it.Anyway Trevor's site will explain all as follows

"The most futile and disastrous day seems well spent when it is reviewed through the blue, fragrant smoke of a Havana cigar."

Thanks for that Vortigan, I foolishly forgot all about that website (I now remember browsing it a few months ago and it really is a gold mine of information). I'm a fan of most Partagas sticks so I might have to try to get my hands on some the unvarnished before stocks vanish.

Years back I was at Schipol airport, my flight had been delayed for hours, and I bought a 5-pack of Siglo 4's at the duty free shop on the spur of the moment, sat at the bar with a pint of dark beer and tried one of the Siglos...that's when I knew it was for me...

Cant think of the first stick that i really enjoyed but the first one that i fell in love with was the Monte 2. A great smoke and still one of my faves!

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.
