  • Wondering if I should sell up...

I have been pretty quiet lately as I have been busy with career-related pursuits and as a result I should be emigrating to the U.S. within the next few months (visa permitting).

I now find myself wondering if I should sell my cabinet humidor and its Cuban contents. My new employers will pay for furniture removals but obviously getting the Cuban cigars through customs would be a no-no, and I don't really want to bring an empty humidor - I would have no interest in filling it with NCs!

Should I sell up? I guess the cash would come in handy for setting up a new life. My humidor is the Adorini Roma (http://c3203902.r2.cf0.rackcdn.com/roma_brown.jpg) and there are a couple of hundred nice sticks in there at the moment, from Behike 52s to Punch DCs, Trinidad Coloniales etc.

Honestly only you can answer that question.

But i will say pick out a few boxs of you're favourite sticks and keep them getting them though US customs is easy as they its really just that one in a million that gets found out and i think new regs even allow you to being in several boxs of opened Cuban smokes as long as they meet personal consumption (50 sticks i think it is for America) and proof you've smokes one or two so maybe include 23/25 though im not 100% sure on this.

Taking cuban cigars into the U.S.A. is illegal as far as I am aware. No one on this site should be condoning that behaviour.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

There are some I like (Padron, VSG, Short Stories) but I don't need a 3100 count humidor to store them. Arguably they don't require storage / aging also

I guess selling is your best option Travis. As you say, no point transporting if you don't smoke NCs. Don't try to sneak CCs into the US either...if you got into the shit doing so, your visa might be in jeopardy

List them here and I'm sure they'll be snapped up!!

From US customs website 1st Feb 2012

Can I import Cuban cigars into the U.S.?

No. The allowance for bringing in up to $100 worth of Cuban cigars if you were on authorized travel to Cuba is no longer in effect. All importations of Cuban cigars are illegal, including Cuban cigars that were acquired in other countries (such as Canada, England, or Mexico).

There is now an across board ban on the importation into the United States of Cuban-origin cigars and other Cuban-origin tobacco products, as well as most other products of Cuban origin. This prohibition extends to such products acquired in Cuba, irrespective of whether a traveler is licensed by Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to engage in Cuban travel related transactions.

Criminal penalties for violation of the Regulations range up to $1,000,000 in fines for corporations, $250,000 for individuals and up to 10 years in prison. Civil penalties of up to $65,000 per violation may be imposed by OFAC.

Foreign residents and visitors to the U.S.(i.e., French, Mexican etc) may not bring in goods of Cuban origin under any circumstances.

Just my opinion and no to put a downer on your move but I would wait for your visa. Would be nothing worse than selling all your smokes then not getting a visa

Stop discussing the smuggling of cigars into the US. It's illegal.

Such a shame. At the end of the day your humi is just a cupboard and a piece of furniture. If it was filled with guns it would be OK .... just a daft, daft shame.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
