I posted here quite a while ago saying that I was planning a self-build humidor. After some planning and brain wracking, I started the project today 
So the plan is to build a 150 Cigar Humidor at a size of 380x260x170mm
She's gonna have a hardwood out-door grade ply carcass because it's weather treated and should help maintain the in-box atmosphere.
The outside will be veneered in an exotic hardwood (I'm no hippy, but veneering is both the cheaper and more responsible thing to do) was thinking of going with Macassar Ebony, Rosewood or possibly even a oak or walnut Burr (but maybe that's a bit pass? for a self build).
Inside, the humi will be lined with 6mm solid Spanish Cedar, and a removable upper basket.
Furniture will be brass as per standard.
I?ve discussed sourcing Cedar with a wood merchant who I found online and he?s happy to supply me with stock (much more than i need but i?m sure I?ll find a use for the leftovers

Construction begins
I took advantage of the fine woodworking weather and nipped over B&Q and bought my carcass wood.

A bit of handy buzz saw work later and i have rough blanks. The saw was a bit brutal and ended up taking some of the top vaneer off the sides of the blanks but those have become the inner faces which will be covered by Cedar once the box is assembled.

The cobwebs then got brushed off my router and I cleaned up the blanks, taking away a lot of the rough. I was then able to dry construct the box. The finish on the edges was pretty acceptable but i?m not entirely happy with the finish on the rebates that make up the gluing faces. again, it?s acceptable enough for a home project, and I don?t exactly have a woodshop at my disposal.

All in all, I?m happy so far that what I will end up with at this stage is still going to look like a solid ebony/rosewood/walnut burr box, and i?m also confident that it?s going to work well as a humidor.
Tomorrow I?ll separate the lid section from the base in readiness for the next stage:
Gluing the veneers, gluing up the box and fitting hinges.
I?ve 90% decided to go with Macassar Ebony at this stage but on the day I make the order, with the debit card in my hand, i may relent and go off on a complete tangent lol.
