  • Filling a new Humidor - Shopping list!

    Hi everyone,

I recently messed up on my Humidor selection as I bought with a capacity which is much too small but this weekend I will rectify this mistake by getting a much larger Humidor. My aim now is to avoid messing up my cigar shopping list in the same way!

I have been doing quite a bit of research over the past few weeks and over the next two months I intend to part with a reasonable amount of cash and do quite a bit of shopping. Under no illusion the choices I am making may be far too strong for a novice but I'd rather stock well immediately, smoke slowly, and have premier sticks which will age with me and my advancing tastes :-)

    My shopping list thus far:

    Bolivar Belicosos Finos x 10
    Partagas Lusitanias x 25
    Trinidad Reyes SBN x 24
    H Upmann Magnum 46 SLB x 25
    Vegas Robaina Unicos x 3

Distilling the huge range of Cubans to a list of just 5 is near impossible, the list above is my initial attempt based on availability and value in places & stores I will be visiting in the next couple of months, I would love a little help critiquing the list above; am I mad or just misdirected; am I missing very obvious selections; I would very much appreciate your thoughts and get shopping off on the right foot...

    Regards,
    heggers

If you're the monopoly man go for it! Personally I would only grab 2or 3 of any cigar I have never tried before, that was when you come across one you really dont like (It will happen) you haven't blown ?400.

For example I love the Bolivar petit Corona, but really, really do not like hrdly anything else of the line. If I had only tried the BBF I would not have discovered the gem of the PC. I'd pick up samplers of each line first and work your way through them.

Discovering what your favourite cigars are is an amazing experience, dont try to rush through it, savour it all, make notes and take your time. If you rush anything with cigars you're missing the point of the whole thing, chill and relax!

Maybe ask people what they top 10 cigars are then make a list and grab 2 of them all, there are some cigars that everyone will avoid and some that everyone enjoys.

I'm with the captain. Get some samplers and enjoy finding out what you like before waxing loads of money on boxes. If you have a bottomless pot of money then go for it. If not, I'd be gutted if I spent a load on a box and then found a cigar I liked more but couldn't buy a box because I'd already spent my money.

I agree, get 2 or possibly 3 at most of any one cigar that you haven't tried before. I find that looking for what I like is the most fun part of cigar smoking to start with. I would suggest getting 2 of each of what you have listed above and then a LOT more variety! Just my opinion
A cigar is not measured by its cost - It is measured by how much it burns your fingers

Yeah nothing to add here except an endorsement of all the above.Every good vendor will usually have sampler packs of most marques and if they don't they'd certainly be happy put one together for you. Most of all just have lots of fun trying,it's a wonderful journey and your tastes will evolve so it never really stops. It's great

I woulg say always but three to try, one might be fantastic, one either plugged or just not great and a third for comparison.
Don't do what I did after getting my first cuban from Stevieboy I thought it was a romeo no3 and so bought a box only to discover it was actually an upmann PC DOH!
But the romeo's were actually good to phew
