  • Ex Cigarette smokers now Cigar smokers?

I had a conversation with a Dad at my son's mini rugby on Sunday morning and it turns out that he is one of the few ex cigarette smokers I know who is now a cigar man.

In most cases I have found that once people have given up cigarettes they are terrified that a single cigarette will lead them back into full time faggery.

It set me to wondering how many of the gang here were once cigarette smokers?

Other than the odd menthol number at cub camp a million years ago I never understood fags and I have never smoked any other 'substances' either.

    How about you?

By the way, a crisp Sunday morning in the open air with a couple of hours to kill would be the ideal time for a good cigar and a cup of tea while watching the little mites bashing the hell out of each other, what a shame my son's rugby club takes such a dim view of smoking...

I gave up smoking cigarettes in 2000 for 18 months, then started going to the pub and having the odd cigar, this led me back to smoking cigarettes , then I gave up again in 2009, after 6 months I went to Johannesburg and some of the guys got me a cigar or two, yes I was very hesitant to have one, but since then I've never touched a cigarette (and never will) but love cigars. I do smoke a cigar most evenings but sometimes will go without for a couple of weeks, just to see if it bothers me......which it doesn't seem to

I used to smoke the horrible little shit sticks, at least 20 a day. More when drinking. I found that smoking cigars made me want to not smoke cigs. I was on 20 Party Lucitaina's a day for ages. Not wanted a cig for years now.

I am a cigarette to cigar man. Used to smoke all kinds of things legal and not so legal! I believe in experimenting but everyone is different. Thats how I found my faith in stogies!

Ex ciggy smoker too. Gave up around 3 years ago with the odd relapse when drunk...

Smoked cigars now for nearly 2 years and can easily go weeks without one. I feel the cigars help keep me not bothered by cigarettes...

I'm another ex ciggy smoker: 20-30 a day for 10 years then gave up when I moved in to a new house with my then girlfirend, now wife. She was delighted to have a smoke-free house for nearly 8 years until I discovered the joys of puros (prteviously I used to smoke the odd cafe creme & the like, but only when out drinking or fishing)

Never found any cigar put me in danger of going back on the ciggies, However as financial circumstances have significantly curtailed my cigar activities I have turned to a pipe and I am finding that dangerously "morish". Have to keep a bit or a grip or else that could easily become a daily habit.

Me, tailor mades and roll up's, till i was about 32 then packed it in completely, until we were sat outside Chaplins Bar in Cala N Bosch summer of 2009, beautiful evening, lovely meal, some pints of Estrella beer, and the fancy came upon me to have a cigar (well a king ed was all that was available), then i found the Tabac shop, i thought it was a Lusi but now i am more in the know my first ever CC was an 898 unvarnished, and the rest is history and a tupperdor that is slowly filling up, Deep joy.

Never smoked a cigarette and never will. But it's a very good point you make, a few years ago I really feared for the cigar culture in the UK. But now it really seems like it is flurishing and growing, mainly as people would rather spend ?8 on a cigar than a pack of 20 fags.

Ive only smoked one fag in my life but my friend used to smoke about a pack a week of those mint ciggies until the day i offered her a spare fonseca i had needless to say she hasnt gone back and has made herself a permanent resident which has become disastrous for my wallet.

Smoked 20 to 30 cigs a day for 20 years. A few months after quitting I got into Cubans, usually have one a week, the wife and the cost keep it at that level. I never crave cigs, I just look forward to the next cigar!

I've been smoking cigars for about 6 years now, and in that time I've smoked 4 cigarettes.... And only after consuming quite significant quantities of alcohol.

Love Nics term `Faggery' . As said on previous threads never smoke fags really started with Cigars when the ban was put in place, I used to go outside with friends whilst they enjoyed a puff and as Summer crept up i gradually built up interest and taste for Habanos. Although I warn ciggy smokers about not inhaling cigars I do grin when they end up in a fetal position coughing as though theyd never smoked.

I am an ex-cigarette smoker, varying between 20 a day, and in my worst days 40 Marlboro a day. I gave up in 1996, which means I smoked cigarettes for 10 years. It was about 9-10 years later that I tried cigar smoking. I've never found the same addiction problems, I believe it's because the nicotine-buzz from a cigar is slower and less sudden than the nicotine-high of a cigarette.

I smoked 15 - 20 per day between the age of 16 when I started work and 31, like others I smoked more when drinking or on the golf course.

My wife stopped smoking when we started trying for a baby, I nobly (or is that nobbly?) stopped smoking inside.

On 21st January 1997 at midday I smoked my last cigarette - by this time my wife was pregnant - I had finally smoked the last of our duty frees from our October holiday and I gave up there and then. I never had another, though I was often tempted. I can still think "my I wish I had a fag" but I won't ever smoke another cigarette.

In 2010 we went to Cuba on holiday and I always try what the locals do wherever I go. I tried a Romeo Y Juletta No. 2 I think. I bought 6 different cigars to smoke and it grew from there. We went back in 2011 and I brought my allowance and my wife's back.

I can go weeks without, particularly in winter, then have 3 or 4 in a weekend. I'm not hardcore like some on here.

I smoked roll-ups for about 17 years then switched to pipes which led me to cigars too. Don't miss ciggys at all.
