Evening boys, over the last few cigars I have had I have come to the conclusion that I experience more than my fair share on tunneling burns. Is there any common reason for this? I use a punch cut and half way through my latest cigar I changed it to a full cut and the burn was a bit better, could this be a factor? Any advice would be appreciated as I love cigars and everything about them but smoking them seems to not be as relaxing as it should be as I am forever worrying about the burn. I hate tunneling as it totally ruins the cigar and I am afraid to smoke any of my really nice cigars in case it happens to them as well. Thanks, James

I had this issue with some reyes, I just puff harder and keep them fired up and no problem.
Also noticed the reyes taste better when smoked quicker.
Humidity might be the problem as well

I think i have only ever had one cigar ever tunnel on me. The reason may be my attentive lighting. I make sure that there is a definite burn all around the edge of the foot as i light it, and of course everything in the middle. I first toast the foot with the lighter (like we all do), then i rotate and puff over the lighter for a bit (like many of us do), and then i check carefully for an even light and do more puffing accordingly.

I do that too, when I say tunnel I dont mean a really tunneled burn, I mean a bit past the wrapper when the ash comes off, like half a cm or so, is that just normal and I am being too fussy?A cigar is not measured by its cost - It is measured by how much it burns your fingers

Don't let anyone try to turn smoking a cigar into some kind of science or an act of great skill that only a few privileged folks know about...it's all pretty simple really!
Just enjoy...

When I started smoking cigars a couple of years ago I had trouble on occasion with tunnelling. The problem was I wasn't lighting the cigar evenly. Haven't had any trouble since but as others said I think it's something everyone will come across from time to time.
