Nick, I'm happy to recommend the store. The post wasn't meant to be just in relation to CCC but also to encourage people to support their own local stores wherever they may be. As mentioned in earlier posts on this thread, the web is killing the high street. If you are in the fortunate position to have a good local shop then you should support it because you'll miss it if it closes and regret not supporting it more. To be honest this post doesn't just have to relate to cigars just good independent retailers of any kind.

      In reply to Spoony,
I am also a member of the Cuban Cigar Club in Newcastle and you would not believe how popular it is. It's a very busy store with the only lounge outside of London as far as I am aware. The staff are extremely friendly and have plenty of time to offer advice. A great selection of humidors, cutters, lighters, ashtrays etc compliment the store and it's humidor. I visited a store in Manchester recently and was let down by the lack of knowledge and motivation of the staff; the complete opposite of CCC. Honestly folks, this place is a real gem - highly recommended!

Carlisle, Newcastle and Liverpool all have excellent cigar shops. I'm pretty sure there's at least one in the Manchester area, and a small one in Warwick.

There is a small tobacconists in Ipswich which I visit regulary, just a display humi though, not much of a selection but some good cigars there. Also, Bury St Edmunds has a tobacconists with a walk in humi! Been once and will definitely be going back again. Loads to choose from CC and NC! Of course, living in sunny Suffolk helps to get to these places like myself, or if your passing through!

I thing that to be a cigar and specialities retailer you have to love the product and what you're doing. Ok the demands are not what they once were, but I think a lot of speciality tobacconists closed when the owners retired, no one wanted to step up and take on the love aspect, much easier to sell Benson and Hedges and Lottery Tickets.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
