  • Humidor too cold?

Hi guys it's been a while since ive been on here, busy christmas and all.
I am now the proud owner of a 150 cigar capacity, three drawed humidor that i am very impressed with.
I do however have one problem, i have seasoned the humidor and the RH stays at 70-72% but the tempreture in my home is as low as 60f when the heating isn't on (during the day when no one is hom). I was just wondering if this is a problem, im sure some of you have been in a similar situation before and may be able to offer some advice? Is there any easy ways to raise the tempreture a little bit without spending a fortune leaving the heating on all day?
    Thanks.
    AW.

Alex i wouldnt worry too much , keep them in a room where the temp doesnt fluctuate too much ie a cupboard out of draughts and not next to a radiator.

Not the prettiest solution, but did you keep the cardboard box the humi came in? If so that will do it. If not a cover, similar to those for computer monitors should retain the heat for you.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

+1 just about the best advice you can get with humi temp is to ensure it is stable...

Your humidity is a bit high but the temperature should be OK.

Some years ago, I wrote and published a monograph on Relative Humidity and hygrometers which included this passage:

Now Habanos SA, who should know something about storing cigars has been putting an insert in every box of cigars they ship since as long as I can remember. It specifies a temperature of 16?C-18?C and 65%-70% humidity.

16?C-18?C is 60.8?F-64.4?F and is the same temperature that the factories store or 'rest' the half-wheels of freshly rolled cigars while they lose the extra moisture that was added to keep the leaves supple for rolling. The storage humidity is also as spec above.

My temperature was yo-yoing a few weeks ago, I put it in my wardrobe and all has been ok since
A cigar is not measured by its cost - It is measured by how much it burns your fingers

Alex, I am not sure where you are located but if you are in London pop into Davidoff and have a chat with Edward or Eddie Sahakian.

I know that for they keep their long term ageing cigars very cool but I can't remember the exact temperature.

I wouldn't worry. My cigars are in similar conditions: Ideal humidity at about 60f (it's called a British Winter). As snooky said, fluctuation is a bigger factor than the temperature itself (within reasonable parameters). The same goes for humidity, it's mostly about the flux. As long as conditions are fairly consistent and inside extremes, then you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone for the advice, i feel more confortable with the conditions now.
Now all i need to worry about is keeping it cool in the summer .
