  • Smoking a cigar with the wrapper 'a bit bashed about'

I have been staring at a Monte Edmundo which came to the top of my humidor over Christmas and regretting that the wrapper was split and generally a bit bashed about.

I picked it up today and it smelled so bloody horny that I have just smoked it and it was stunningly good. So it occurs to me to ask you chaps you opinion.

I know the wrapper is there to make the stick look sexy but I can't say I noticed any change in the draw (the broken wrapper was about half way down).

    Anyone else got any thoughts?

I regularly take cigars with me to the pub and at the end of the night when i come to smoke them they normally look as twisted as a culebra with broken wrappers and a "rustic" appearance lol.

But ive found unless its really far gone there isnt much of a difference in draw burn can sometimes be a issue though sometimes there is a slight difference in taste but nothing to put me off.

And dont worry if they are too far gone they aint wasted just chop them up and stick them in a pipe/hookah.

One of the best cigars I smoked in 2010 had a wrapper which looked like it had been through a shredder. The draw was perfect throughout and the flavour was still there from the wrapper. The only downside was the annoyance of constantly trying to get the wrapper's burn rate to marry up with that of the rest of the cigar.

Its a mechanical issue. I have smoked many a split wrapper. If the rolling gods are smiling it wont effect the smoke.

I repair wrappers with Pectin & allow to dry, prevents furhter splitting & looks far more smokable IMHO.

              Love it Tip!

I usually buy doubles or triples as opposed to singles. If I'm planning to buy a box I'd rather the decision based on more than one stick. Often when I get the sticks I'll compare them to each other visualy and although it's probably just coincidence the ugliest one is usually always the tastiest, better drawing smoke.

                Great lads.

So it's back to my youth, if you want something tasty "go ugly early"
