  • Best,WORST and your old goto of the year.

As its almost time for the booze to really start flowing so before we all get too drunk i think this would be as good time as any for us all to list our best, worst and our old faithful cigars that have never let us down yet and why.

    Dont worry ill start.

BEST - This is nothing special it really isnt but i had my first villiger premium tubo since well a long time this was the cigar that got me into cigars and it really took me back to where it all began pretty surprising from a ?4 newsagents cigar.

WORST- Ohh this is a hard one but im going to split it between punch margaritas and hoyo short robustos the bunch are always ALWAYS either really tight or plugged and the hoyos are to me always very very harsh on the palette which is a shame as i really like some of the hoyo sticks like the des dieux and especials.

OLD FAITHFUL - Surprising for me this isnt a bolivar royal corona as the last few have had some draw/burn/consistency issues that make me pass them over for the H.Upmann Connie 1 and looking back at the amount of empty cabs ive got of these i must of smoked almost 200 of these over the year as ive got 3 left in a box and 7 empty boxs next to it the draws always good the flavour is always good even the young ones make a nice mild smoke.

Soo there it is boys and girls now i want yours for the year.

PS. On the note of all this my most disappointing smoke was the Upmann half corona its just a guantanamera with a upmann band.

Best - Bolivar Corona Junior, lovely little stick packed with so much flavour & a perfectly timed smoke for myself.

Worst - Henri Wintermans, just awful.

    Old faithful - Magnum 46

Wort, Like Fred said Henri Wintermans, yum haha!

Old faithful, don't have one yet

Best - Aged Cohiba Corona Especiale.

Worst - Rafael Gonzales Corona Extra, burn't well but absolutely no taste, a real surprise.

Go to Cigar - A tough choice between Trinidad Reyes or HdM Petit Robusto ........ going purely on the amount smoked this year it has to be the Reyes.
Exploring the world - one smoke at a time.

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly!

This is a good question, chico...and a tough one for me. But off the top of my pre-morning joe head:

              Best: Monty 2006 EL Robusto

Worst: A plugged H. Upmann Connoisseur No. 1 (Discussed HERE!)

Go To: Triny Reys and Bolivar RC

Best - Odd one for me this but it was RyJ Ex #4 from '03, got four left thankfully, lovely smoke, all light wood and fruits, ruddy brilliant for a walk picking blackberries oddly enough! Not a huge fan of RyJ on the whole and I don't think I was enamored with these to start with but it's amazing what a bit of age can do to the right stick

Worst - No competition here, an absolutely appalling Partagas Serie D 5 - possibly the worst stick I've smoked since the complete cr@p from behind the bar in my youth! Definitely my worst ever Cuban cigar.

Old Faithful - Again no competition, so much so it's a struggle to choose between these and something really 'special' for my new years smoking, the great little stick that is the HdM Petit Robusto!! (No offense Reaver but not had a single harsh or plugged or in fact anything but fantastic one of these, sweet, creamy chocolatey goodness).
So yeah, tough question is do I go for the Sublimes or some other EL or RE or some such hard to find goodness or just burn my way through a few of these to celebrate the beginning of a new year?!

Do give one of the Sublimes a go, my best stick of the year and I'm another big fan of the Hoyo PR!

Thanks for the answers guys and gals (maybe) lets keep it going

@ Zigatoh Dont worry i wont take offence lol ive only had about 4-5 of the petite robustos thats not much of a sample and it was all from the same shop and the same box so maybe they where just young or a bad box or maybe thay just dont agree with me.

@ Tjcoro well that puts a small dent in my image of the connie ones but hay stick it in the garden and try to grow it into the tree it wants to be

Best: A tie between a heavenly RyJ and a thick creamy Cohiba siglo I

Worst: I had a H.Upmann Coronas junior Tubos that tasted so vile I had to wash my mouth out with listerine!

Go to cigar: Ramon Allones Small Club Coronas are my go to cigar they never seem to fail me and always deliver a strong but mellow smoke that goes perfectly with a malt whisky.

Bit late in on the action, but here we go (for 2011):

Best: LFdC Short Robusto - Truly delicious, creamy and buttery with a nice, subtle edge. Everything an elegant cigar should be.

                              Best Non-Cuban:
La Aurora Preferidos Cameroon No2 - Absolutely perfect burn, brilliant wrapper. Love the shape. Loved the smooth, flavoursome smoke. Overall, a fine cigar. Probably not quite as refined as the LFdC SR, but was certainly right up there with it.

Worst Cuban: ERdM Petit Corona - Just the one (as you will see, this was my go-to). Sadly, there was one which was plugged as tight as a... erm... very tight thing... What smoke I could extract from it wasn't all that pleasant either. Still, one dodgy one out of 25 isn't a terrible strike rate.

Just Worst: Some Dominican thing a mate found in a newsagents. A Santa Damiana if I recall correctly - produced a foul, pretty tasteless smoke. Had to toss it.

(In fact, I would go so far as to say that the above two cigars are the only two which truly disappointed this year. I wasn't on a high consumption rate, but had enough to be pleased with only the two duds).

Go-to: ERdM Petit Corona - I tend to have a box of something in alongside all my singles, and regularly it's a box of ERdM PCs. That was this year's main offering and, as ever, they just hit the spot when I needed them. By no means the best or most complex cigars I smoked this year, but (with the one exception, above) always a solid, tasty smoke, lasting just the right amount of time to take with a beer.
