  • New to smoking Cigars.

Would like to say after many many years of smoking cigarettes, then rollies. I finally decided to pick up some small mini cigars to test them out, was very nice, very nice indeed. Got some bigger ones and I'm almost crying with happiness, they are so lovely in comparison to cigarettes.

Well now I'm looking to buy some nice cigars, not too expensive, A sample pack maybe, just to see what I prefer.

I don't think even after a small sample of cigars I could ever go back to smoking cigarettes.

Well, after starting smoking I didn't start looking for a cigarette forum online.

Still, any advice for a newbie like me, or is there any sample pack that anyone here would recommend?

Also, thank you all for being here.

Any Cuban brands under Habana. Romeo y Juliet, Partagas, Bolivar, H.Upmann, etc. It's difficult to go wrong with them. Most other Cubans will see you right too. As for non-Cubans, Dominican brands such as Davidoff and 3 X 3, or Nicaraguan brands such as Padron (and for me, La Rica) are good too.

Forgive me if i have pegged you wrong, but as you are a cigarette smoker, please remember that cigars are very different beasts. Like comparing cars and motorbikes, or comparing Jack Daniels single barrel bourbon and WKD; Different price, different use, different rules. Cigars are to be lit and smoked gently, and should be savoured modestly with deliberation, rather than rushed for a nicotine fix. Treat them with respect too, as misuse can make someone feel like crap, on top of the waste of money.

Do these things (if you don't already), and you will probably enjoy cigars even more than you already do.

I have indeed heeded your words as those that have experienced such before.

At first I didn't think of them as much different, aqlthough as a few passed my lips I did realise that they are entirely different, like comparing a gold fish to as dog as a pet. Mistakes are too be made for me on the cheaper end of the scale as such I started with the cheaper end, and will not move on until I feel I am worthy of the quality that the cigars bring.

And I shall search, and listen for those like you, that have the advice I realised I so sorely need

      Thanks.

An extremely good sampler is the one from C.Gars Ltd

"C.Gars Best Selling Petit Corona Smokes Sampler"

Those are all first class smokes.
Whilst ordering, add a couple of Trinidad of whatever size takes your fancy. The Reyes and Robusto Extra are two of my all time favourite cigars and are not to be missed.

Hello! I'm a relative newbie too, although I've been smoking for around a year now. I think the 2008 sampler from CGars ^ is a fab option, lots of variety there!

Personally, I love the H Upmann Magnum 46 (very cocoa orientated) but they can be quite pricey! Montecristo No4 and No5 are decent sticks imo too as are the Cohiba Siglo I's and II's (I is the smallest and II is the next size up).

Here is a shortlist of what you may enjoy - San Cristobal El Principe, Ramon Allones Small Club Corona, H Upmann Mag 46, Monte No4 & No 5, Cohiba Siglo I, Siglo II, Por Larranaga Petit Corona and the Trinidad Reyes. I'd say avoid Bolivar and Partagas for a while, they can be quite strong and sometimes not favourable for a new cigar smoker.

If I were you and didn't want to spend too much, I'd take a shot at the sampler linked above or some individuals such as the Mag 46, Monte No4, Siglo I, Por Larranaga PC.

Have you read into humidors by the way? Worth getting if you want to keep cigars in the long term!

          Frederick

            Welcome to the club

Now onto smokes a good place to start for anyone would be a montecristo number 4 (or if you goto sainsburys i think they sell them in tubos called monte petite tubos)

Another few good smokes to start with almost all under a tenner are sancho panza non plus,h.upmann coronas junior, cohiba exquisitos(they are a bit strong though but you might like it),cohiba sigalo 2 (?12ish),pretty much every fonseca you can find,el ray de mundo petite coronas

The list goes on but they are just my suggestions from what i like you need to look over a good website that sells cubans cgars ltd and jj foxs are both great (dunno if im allowed to link but you can google them) and find the size, shape and price range you like the look of though if they do a sampler/recommended selection of a few cigars like the one linked above i say buy one and see

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

Indeed, wouldn't want to go and ruin the experience and quality of a cigar by doing that.

Looking around for a cheap newbie cutter at the moment and a nice sampler pack.

If I get more into it I shall upgrade the cutter.

I suppose a good question to ask really is what website in your opinion should I purchase from? (that applies to all reading this)

Welcome! Check out the sponsor, Cgars. Good prices for amazing cigars! Also depending where you live, a decently stocked tobacconists should be of help too.

Had a nice quick look, noticed the link earlier in the thread to a sampler and thought..

"Why not?" Got a nice cheap cutter along with it as well.

Should be enjoying one maybe two of them sometime next week
