  • Punch Cutter

Can anyone recommend me a good cigar punch? I have seen the 2 on cgars

Both can be seen here (one at ?3.99 and one at ?9.99).

Would either of these be any good? And does anyone have any other punches that they use that they could recommend, thanks gents.

Never seen the point of the punch cut myself. Is there one?

Well I've never been that good with cuttersi.e I can't get a straight and clean cut so I thought I'd try a punch and see if that suits me better

I tried a punch a while back, they seem to work well on small ring gauge smokes, the end of the cigar remains stronger and more intact (ideal if you like to chew on yours). As far as smoking, the smaller exit hole for the smoke makes for a stronger flavour buildup over time, tar can collect quicker when compared to a conventional cut.

I didn't dislike the experience but always end up going back to my Xikar, as for larger ring gauges I found the hole punched was just not big enough for my liking.

What cutter are you currently using? As that could be the biggest part of the problem.

Its a Credo twin blade cutter from cgars, would think its more than up to the job of cutting a few leaves

You'd think so, however, I have also thought this many a time regarding the various amounts of cutters that I have worked through. I even I had one that I thought was doing the best job possible.

              Then I got a Palio.

It was then I realised I may have been better off using a slice of lime to try and cut my cigars than everything else I was using. Palio's really do seem to be engineered with much more superiority than most of the other cutters I have tried (I haven't ever used a Xigar, however I hope one will be under me tree next week).

My advice would be to put the money towards a Palio or a Xigar, and use that for a little while. If it still isnt working for you, you should be able to sell it without too much difficulty (Probably to me haha) and then buy a punch after that.

The other option would be one of the Cuban Crafter cutters that I have (I cant remember the exact model), but it has a back stop behind the blades, with a hole in the middle for tropedo's, which makes it almost impossible not to get a straight perfect cut. The only issue people seems to report (There is a thread on it somewhere here) is that that dont seem to be as sharp, or cut as well as some of the older models. It is my second go to cutter if for some reason I cant find the Palio.

If you REALLY dont want to spend the money up front, when I get back to the UK in a few weeks, let me know, and ill send you my Palio and Cuban Crafters cutter for you to try for a couple of weeks and you can send them back to me after, and decide for yourself if you want to then buy one.

Would you really do that? If you will then I will send you a cigar or 2 just so you can test it still works lol. I would really appreciate it if you would do that DW. If you still are willing to do this when you get back let me know. Thanks again, James

Haha don't be daft. You don't have to send me anything. I can live without them for a couple of weeks, Ive got a few other cutters that will do the job whilst they are on vacation. Just give me a gentle reminder mid January when I am back if I haven't messaged you telling you I have sent them, as there is a medium to strong possibility I will forget haha!
