The cap on cap off is due to the aerobic / anaerobic bacteria / processes that cause ageing. Not too sure beyond that, but its a starting point for research.

Thanks for the continued advice, all caps are now off.

I'll agree with the Tupperware with humidification idea. That's what I've been using since I started with the cigars and nearly three years later that's what I'm still using. I prefer Boveda pouches (link in sig) as I never got on with beads but each to their own.

Spot on. I did have a great link about this-I'll see if I can find it later on.

No. The caps are put on in perfect humidity conditions. Kept in a humi or in a tup a tubos can't loose humidity and dry out, because if humidity can get out, it can also get in.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Ah so in theory I could place them in the humi to allow circulation then sometime later can put the lids back on to preserve humidity?

I leave mine in tubes with caps off. Reason being I believe it gives them some air etc and the tubes act as great little dividers between different cigars which need to be split up, no need for expensive cedar dividers that way more money to spend on cigars
A cigar is not measured by its cost - It is measured by how much it burns your fingers

Haven't yet found the need to buy a humi myself...

Tupperdores work fine as long as you keep the cigars in cedar boxes (or tubes). I have 2 large tuppis, both of which are crammed full. My sticks always taste fine and seem to age nicely.
