  • Safe to buy or not?

Okay i'm probably being a bit of a wuss here, but I'm in Dubai and will be in and out of hotels and air conditioned rooms for the next 2 weeks flying multiple sectors.

Today I found in the incomming duty free 3 boxes of Bolivar Gold Medals all 2007 and a box of 2006 Punch Robustos, the long and short of it that I didn't buy them as I thought my travelling would spoil them....was I foolish?

I have since bought some tupperware incase i see any more good deals.

Let me know your thoughts please gentlemen.

Will be fine for 2 weeks. Do not worry. If anything the humidity is more than enough out there. Cigars are far more robust (o?) than we give them credit for.

    Sent from happy tappy tap.

I took clingfilm to cuba so they didn't get damaged in the dry air on the plane.

I took a load of large ziplock food bags with me to Cuba. The better shop cling filmed the custom rolled I bought for the journey home. I then put them in the ziplocks just in case .

Agree. For the first couple of months, i kept my cigars in a briefcase, humidified by a damp sponge. Surely not doing the job of a good humidor, Yet they all held up fine. The last of these cigars that i had been storing got smoked back in September, months after getting a proper humidor. It was fantastic.

They are indeed far more robust than we tend to think. It;s more about making sure they've been in ideal conditions for at least a little while before they are actually smoked.

Eddie's cling film tip worked for me in Cuba last month.
              A "Top Tip" thanks

Believe me, the prices in Dubai are the best in the world outside Cuba, and it is definitely worth buying as many cigars as you can, even if you are travelling in and out of hotels for the next two weeks!

Yes, specially when every good cigar stores sell "humidipouch" or "humidipack" bags that can keep your cigars fresh for monthes… The largest humidipouch that I've bought could hold a box of churchills!

They're good but I think Gib prices are probably even better.

Okay here's another question, I notice that alot of the sellers have boxes that the Cuban security seal is broken and they put a Guarantee of quality sticker over them.....is this normal ( not duty free) and the other thing is that the usual price is not marked, just some sticker with the Dhs amount....any ideas or remarks?

Sorry fr all the questions never bought here before but have heard of lots of fakes.

What do you call a "guarantee sticker"? Could you by chance take a picture?
I have been told that even in the best shops of Dubai (airport and city) some really odd boxes can be found, and some gems as well.
The best way to be safe IMHO is to avoid all high ends cigars, and all the most demanded cigars too.
Thus, I would stay away from Cohiba, ELs, Monte2, Monte4, Partagas D4? and I'd concentrate on lesser known marcas and older stuff?
With a bit of luck you will find some Punch Monarcas, ERDM Tainos, RyJ Celestiales Finos, aged Diplomaticos, etc. That kind of stuff?

Last year (dec. 2010) they still had a few boxes of RA 898!

                          Good luck!
