Cigar auction

Has anyone been to one? Can some explain the process? Can anyone turn up or do you usually need to be invited? There's one taking place in a couple of weeks - http://www.cigarauctions.co.uk/docum...l&title=Events - I really want to attend to see what happens. I've been invited to view the lots from next week - does anyone know what this means? I'm really intrigued. As i'm new to this forum, sorry if there's been any posts like this before.

I'm just wanting to learn more and more about cigars - that's all.

Any insights/advice would be great!

I've never been free to go, but a few on here have and I'm sure they can help. Guys you know who you are...

I think you just need to register to join. Go to Mitch's web site and you will get details.
If you look on his site I think you will also see previous years prices. That will a. give you an idea of what the market prices were/are b. will let you know whether you need to pack your cheque book.

My recollection was that there were some cheaper cigars but you will need to be a real expert to know whether they were a bargain or just lesser cigars that sold at a lesser price.

If you are not a real expert go without your cheque book and soak it up.

Like you, muchacho, I too am intrigued by the auctions sponsored by Mitch. So much so that I am considering putting a few boxes of Cohiba Sublimes up for auction at the next one. At a minimum, it would be a good excuse to visit my UK mates again.

If you decide to go, let us know how it went. Sounds like a grand affair!

Always a degree of risk buying vintage cigars. You need to be able to cover the risk to buy at auction.

Went to one of Mitch's a few months back. I'd say about 50 people there bidding, but prices were somewhat out of my league!

The dinner etc at Boisdale's was brill!

Hi Nic, thanks for the advice. I'm thinking of going along to this, if they let me. I don't have the money to bid for any of the cigars, but would be great to see the whole experience - and really keen to see the Cohiba Gran Corona humidor signed by Fidel Castro.

This is the usual procedure for any auction, be it furniture or jewelry or paintings: buyers can come and inspect the objects (the "lots") in order to decide on which they will bid?
